Your music on repeat in my ears down under as I celebrate you and the gifts you bring us 🧡💃🏽 Watching #Jubilee shot through the lens of @pratik8shah has me loving and believing in the power of cinema yet again… and reminds me of this very special role as a Lavani dancer in 1895 India. There is something so magical about art which depicts the process of making art 💃🏽🎬💜 Watching #Jubilee shot through the lens of @pratik8shah has me loving and believing in the power of cinema yet again… and reminds me of this very special role as a Lavani dancer in 1895 India. Melbourne, Australia Wearing @mastani.label – a perfect combination of Indian & Australian fashion ethos – for the @acmionline ‘Being Seen on Screen’ session in Melbourne. Melbourne, Australia What a beautiful opening for the #acmigoddess exhibition. A true homage to the grit, barrier breaking power and warrior energy of every woman who has dared to dream to be on screen. To stand in my hometown and witness the portrayals of fierce ‘filmy’ women through the ages felt strangely karmic. It was only a few kms from studio in which I was once told by a teacher that I would never be seen on Aussie screens because – well – I was brown. (Cue my journey across the Indian Ocean while still at college to seek out the nuclear cell of my Goddess inspirations in Mumbai.) Amongst the fiery pantheon of screen Goddesses, I witnessed the iconic Meena Kumari – one of my early inspirations – front and centre. I then flicked through and saw in print the Goddess Publication for which I was honoured to pen an homage to the mythical archetypes of Hindi celluloid, those that moved me to move, whose eyes, ada, mudra & rhythm filled my childhood with dreaming. Tuesday night I felt like a true chela (disciple) to the women who had dared for decades so that my peers and I could even think it possible to enter the dreamscape of on screen storytelling. Thank you @acmionline @geenadavisorg @matchbox_pictures @visitmelbourne @vogueaustralia for such an epic evening of celebration and joy! Don’t miss the Goddess Exhibition and the fabulous programming on now at ACMI in Melbourne! #visitmelbourne #visitvictoria Thank you @devs213 for dressing me as a Goddess in @surilyg and @csmith_makeup for making my locks come alive 🧡 What a beautiful opening for the #acmigoddess exhibition.
