This is Day 3 of my family’s cross Canada Overlanding adventure to Northern B.C. and we are just passing though Thunder Bay, Ontario after camping at Sleeping Giant last night. We’re driving our @chevroletcanada Silverado ZR2 and hauling our Expedition 2.0 off-road tear-drop by @offgridtrailers for our accommodations. I’m happy to report that the kids are doing great, and we’ve enjoyed several sights along Lake Superior’s beautiful north shore. That being said, we have also dealt with a couple hiccups – most notably, our dog North had a run-in with a skunk last night which resulted in me spending the entire morning scrubbing him in the lake with tomato sauce and toothpaste! But before leaving on this month-long adventure, we harvested a bunch of the corn, beans and squash from our three-sisters garden and have been enjoying delicious meals of ample corn on the cob and moose steaks each night. (Hudson doesn’t seem to want to wait for the corn to be cooked and hammered a whole cob and a half raw yesterday). We’re all looking forward to see what adventures lie ahead, particularly the 10-day canoe trip into Alaska down the Stikine River which we’ll reach after making our way down the rugged Telegraph Creek road. We’re going to be putting the big lake behind us soon and will push to the Kenora, Ontario area tonight.

We made it to the Rockies! It was late in the night last night when we find a place to camp near Jasper National Park and spend some time this morning enjoying our campsite and the. hiking into Maligne Canyon which was just stunningly beautiful despite the multiple people on the trail this Monday of the Labour Day long weekend. We also saw a heard of Big Horn Sheep which was really cool. A lot of the best views here are obscured by forest fire smoke that has blown in from a ways away, on top of the generally overcast day, but Jasper has not disappointed. Now we begin the remote leg of our journey and are just making sure we have all the final things we’ll need to be self-sufficient as we head north to the Cassiar Hwy and Telegraph Creek Rd.

@torigoesoutside and I are continuing through Saskatchewan today after camping near Buffalo Pound Lake where indigenous people would herd wild bison into natural corals, or pounds that are created by the deep coulees and hills that etch deep into the prairie there. Yesterday, we moved through western Ontario after camping at Eagle Lake, and pushed through Kenora where we visited “Husky the Musky”. We soon crossed the 100th meridian and found ourselves in the Great Planes from where we continued though Manitoba before reaching Buffalo Pound just after dark. Another log day of travel today should put us in Jasper National Park where we plan to take a day off. It’s Day 5 of our trip today and hope to arrivein Telegraph Creek, BC on day 10. So far, so good.
Our off-roading tear-drop by @offgridtrailers has been serving us quite well as has our Silverado ZR2 by @chevroletcanada . The two form a dream overlanding combo but we’ve not put them to a true test yet as far as negotiating rugged terrain goes…That may become more of a reality when we venture off of British Columbia’s Cassier Highway and onto the Telegraph Creek road in the coming days.

Stopped by this super cool store called @redbearoutdoors today and took a look at some different kinds of overlanding gear I’ve never seen before. I picked up this Flatpack Firepit which is a portable campfire and cooking device made by @overlandracksontario in collaboration with @redbearoutdoors themselves. Can’t wait to put it to the test!
