Creating the right routine to maximise your movement potential as a dancer is of prime importance.
Each person is different. We all have different strengths and different muscular imbalances. The right training should always strengthen your weaknesses and balance your body.

Having a routine before your performance is important. A clear physical routine that gets your body ready and available for movement.
My routine has changed over the years and is evolving as I evolve….
It’s important to keep it pliable and allow it to accommodate the environment.

“Sukham stiram āsanam” is something I would constantly hear in the context of yoga. As dancers, we like to move, we like the action of motion and the idea of resting in a position is tedious when you’re a teenager.
I don’t think that I developed an individual yoga practice for a very long time. I used to enjoy being pushed to my physical limits… and didn’t really want to stay and breathe or go through the rigour of ‘staying quiet’
In the past 10 years this is the one thing that has changed for me with respect to yoga. I enjoy the quietness of it. It’s meditative in a way that demands attention.
I don’t subscribe to the idea that the physical movement of yoga has meditative benefits. But I do believe that the physical practice – if done mindfully – can force us to focus our mind.

As I saw this footage , I realised how much I’ve changed in the last 5 years. While I’ve grown closer to my dance, I’ve also developed a necessary distance from it. A distance that gives me the ability not to be affected as much when things don’t turn out as I had planned. I find so much more joy in the process, especially when dealing with variables with respect to people and situations, just by letting go! Such a difficult thing to do…
It’s not about becoming complacent with my art… but more about learning to let go of the outcome… and doing my best with whatever is offered…
Trying to grow as a person.. with my art. Lot of deviation from my promotion of “the goddess” !! 😂
But please come to this show!! It’s one of my best works… I’m really proud of it right now… and I’m pretty sure you’ll all enjoy it .
