2023 has been the hardest year of my life. Never before have I experienced so much physical and emotional pain. I’m still here though and despite being a little broken, I’m healing and adapting and loving. My body hurts in ways I’ve never experienced but my mind is strong and my heart is full. Two months of mothering our little wild one. Some days I feel like a super hero and others I feel like I’m doing everything just a little bit wrong. I’ve never loved like this and with big big love comes big big emotions. There’s been joy, awe, delight and fulfillment but there’s also been fear, worry, exhaustion and doubt. The responsibility of keeping a baby alive and thriving is overwhelming. Some things come naturally but most things have to be learned and practiced. Nurturing a tiny human is an art. My identity continues to evolve. Each day my world is filled with beautiful new meaning and each day I mourn some aspect of my old life. I’m actively learning what the new me is capable of and working hard to prioritize my personal goals however small they might be at the moment. More than ever before though I am present. Each sweet little moment matters. I’m taking it all in. I’m attentive to all of his tiny details: the changing tones of his coos, the swirls of his hair, the squeeze of his fingers, the timbre of his cry, the flashes of his widening eyes, the color of his poop. So my little bird, here’s to continuing to learn about each other and figuring out this life together. Despite being bleary eyed I can’t wait to greet the dawn with you again tomorrow 🐣
