Some simple things… ✨Wilder is 2 weeks old today. 🩵 I love that I can wake up with a newborn and like my hair in the morning. one month with wilder. one month of singing all my favorite songs while he sleeps on my chest after nourishing his little body from my body. oh how i love the sweet smell of his skin and the gentle warmth of his hair against my lips. hoping he’s feeling comforted by these serenades and he too will grow up loving the timeless soul songs that have brought me so much joy and comfort throughout my life. love you baby 🩵
5 months baby!! Damn it really does just keep getting better. You are such a little person now. I’m proud of us. Each day we are doing it. Each day we manage to keep you safe and loved. Immensely grateful and fully aware of what a gift that is. It’s true what they say about this being the longest, shortest time. Doing my best to soak you all up. 🩵

✨Postpartum update✨ I planned to post this a few days ago but we ended up spending the weekend at the pediatrician, the pediatric ER and then the cardiologist. Good news is that Wilder has been cleared by the cardiologist and is healthy, happy and safe. I was momentarily devastated when my labor stalled after 10 hrs and my team and I decided it was time to have a cesarean. I had “failed to progress” (I loath that term) and Wilder was stuck in my pelvis. Our only option was to head into the OR. I had already recovered from one surgery earlier in the year and having to heal from another major surgery on top of being a new mom just felt too overwhelming. Despite my fear, I settled into the reality of what was to come and by the time they were wheeling me into the OR I was calm and determined to make the rest of my birth experience a beautiful one. Cesarean birth was so much more magical and meaningful than I could have imagined. That had a lot to do with the fact that my midwife and OB stayed with me beyond the end of their shifts to perform the procedure and my partner rock talked me through everything and kept me calm even when I wouldn’t stop bleeding. The feeling of having a baby pulled out of your open body is unlike anything I could have prepared for. The rocking, the intense pressure, the release. The sound of Wilder crying. The flood of tears. The tremendous relief. I’m still in awe of how I’ve healed and how my body continues to heal after such a trauma. I look forward to slowly returning to the physical activities I love so much. Patience Alexis, patience. I know not everyone has a positive experience with this procedure. It so often brings a lot of trauma. I’m not saying my experience wasn’t traumatic, but I’m so grateful for the care I received, and for the moments of indescribable catharsis and joy that accompanied it. Thrilled to report that I can still ice climb! It’s been almost 10 months since my shoulder surgery and yesterday was the first time I was able to swing tools. I was pretty anxious about weighting my shoulder if my feet blew, but I harnessed all my physical, mental and emotional strength and climbed a beautiful WI3 Not bad considering not too long ago I thought ice climbing was something I’d never be able to return to. Thank you @mountainsinmymind for setting up the rope and to my love @chris_vultaggio for your support and encouragement. Thank you @mwv_icefest and @arcteryxnewyork for inviting me up to present at this year’s ice fest. So grateful for the opportunity! Looking forward to next year. Myself and five other climbers, educators, advocates and dreamers co-founded @riseoutsidecollective two years ago. We wanted to create a nonprofit organization dedicated to diversifying the outdoors and committed to empowering underrepresented communities in outdoor adventure.
