Many people could look at the incident back in 2003 as a major setback for me, but God had so much in store for the future! 🤙🏼 It’s absolutely wild to think how my life started and where it is now and all the amazing yet challenging things in between. I didn’t wake up in the hospital thinking I was invincible and was gonna get back to surfing. After getting a hint of inspiration, I had to dream it up, flip my mindset and be willing to do what I had not seen anyone else do. This was a challenge to live in faith. And I am so glad I was willing to try and give it my best shot! 🙏🏼 Now I get to surf with my two eldest sons Tobias and Wesley and my hubby! I get to enjoy these sweet moments with my newborn daughter. There is so much to be grateful for, and these past 20 years have been filled with incredible moments and huge overcoming seasons. 💛 When you have your “Shark Attack” moments in life. I hope you’re willing to try, and give life your best shot! You too CAN OVERCOME! 20 years later… This was the location of my shark incident as a 13 year old girl. I’m in awe of how much God has made beauty out of something so scary and so awful. When we face challenge, it can be hard to have hope beyond our chaos, but it is essential. I hope that my life can be a ✨hint of hope✨for you in the challenges that you face. I see the challenges along the way as a call to live in faith and to trust in God to carry me through it all! I’m so grateful to God for his faithfulness 😭🙌🏼 Life today… I have an incredible husband, 4 amazing children, one super strong arm 💪🏽🤗 and a body that still allows me to surf and do my thang! 🤙🏼 I see so much goodness through one of the hardest moments of my life. Thank you Jesus!! The past 20 years has given me the opportunity to step into a call to bring hope to others and to be a part some really amazing things. Here’s to the next 20 years!!! 🥳 The joy this sweet girl has brought to my life! 🤗🥰 It has been so sweet to see the love that her brothers have for her! I’m so grateful for this! ☺️ While life has its sweet times, we often find ourselves thinking of multiple things in our lives that are not going good and the things we wish were better. I get it 😱 I’m right there with you! So what can we do? – Be grateful. Intentionally think on what you are grateful for and share it out loud if it’s a person we are thankful for! – Joy. Spend time, even if it is just 15 minutes a day, doing something that brings you joy. – Pray. Bring all things to God in prayer. Take comfort in His promises, that His will is being done. These 3 things are what I try to focus on every day…I know it can be a lot to juggle, but we need to be intentional in times of stress and challenge. 🙌🏼 As I often say… YOU CAN overcome!!! 💪🏽🔥🫡 Changing your mindset is free. Doesn’t mean it’s an easy or fast fix. It’s up to you to be honest with yourself and start working on it. It’s wild to me that some people still think surfing with one arm is not possible. I am a living example and there are soooo many other amazing adaptive athletes and people out there doing incredible things that people perceive as impossible. What is it about some who are willing to adapt and make the most of what they’ve got? MINDSET. It may take time to switch it up and we may have to be forever workin at it. But I promise you, that you won’t regret continually flipping your mind to be more grateful, more optimistic, more of what and how can can I do this life to the best of my abilities… More of – I don’t need easy I just need possible. 🧠✨💪🏽 Hope this pushes you today and onward to adapt in your life. YOU CAN. Comment what’s helped you to have a healthier mindset?! 👇🏽 let’s spread the ❤️ I’ll be honest, I’m not a raving fan of social media. But, I do work hard to keep up a strong presence on the platforms so that I can encourage and connect with all of you and the world! 🗺️🤙🏼 Social media is not all bad, but sometimes it can be a struggle to use it well! Before I know it, I’ve just spent way more time scrolling than I meant to or I’m looking at a friend’s post instead of looking at my son’s face when he’s talking to me. As much as it’s fun to get dressed up for photos like these you’re seeing, it is not my every day reality with my husband, 3 boys, and daughter! 💛 Today I wanted to share some of my tops tips for keeping social media at a healthy distance. 1. Remember comparison is the thief of joy! Any second you recognize you may be slipping into believing your life is less than someone else’s… take a break. 2. Encourage those who God has called you to! Remember why you’re here – that could be as simple as being a light in a dark place. 3. Stay in today’s reality. Spend more time with your people without your phone. Put your phone in a separate room at night to remove distractions and get deeper sleep. 4. Create more than you consume! Get back to a life of creating, enjoying your activities and life giving pastimes. I would love to know what helps you keep social media boundaries and even how you implement them in your family! 👇🏼 Share below!! I’ll be honest, I’m not a raving fan of social media. How was I able to surf with one arm + compete and do crazy awesome things in surfing?! I have shared with you all before just how much an epic mindset changes everything. 🤗 Choosing to be thankful, and realizing that so much more is possible than we may think! Often our mindsets are limiting, but we don’t have to stay in those limiting mindsets! 👉🏼 Now being a mom and doing daily activities with my four children, this same sentiment is true. I have spent 20 years now living life with one arm. It is normal for me now to do daily things with my arm. There are days where I see the ease of having both arms for others, but that does not need to hold me back, because I can adapt! I have adapted and changed in so many ways for the better because of my accident years ago. You can adapt too! 🤙🏼 What has pushed me to be resilient is no doubt my willingness to try. But even more so my faith and life foundation being in God. I hope you can overcome the hard times in your life and find hope when all else fails. What mindsets have shifted your life for the better?👇🏽 “Joyfully adapting in motherhood: Diaper change edition! Going into motherhood I was so nervous with all the changes that would come! Fast forward, 4th baby, I’m so grateful for the personal growth it brings and that God sharpens me through it all. And stoked to have epic @everylifeco diapers that make a beautiful impact on others! Use code BETHANY10 for 10% off your next order at EveryLife.com 🩵” On the wonderful days, challenging ones, and every day in between.. You are fully capable and able to raise your children! I know when I am feeling discouraged in motherhood, I pause and remind myself of this often. Sometimes our feelings may tell us otherwise, but the truth is that we’ve been entrusted with the children God has given us as true gifts! And Gods grace is sufficient for me! What do you remind yourself of on the challenging days? Wise parents out there lets hear some encouragement/advice you have to share?! 🙌🏼👇🏼 I’ll pin my fav (: Life is a lot like the ocean. It’s challenging, its beautiful and it can change at anytime… Competitive surfing is such a unique sport because it’s actually more about adapting to the conditions of the ocean than who you’re up against. 🌊 The waves might be amazing when your heat starts and by the time you finish, they could be super bad. Anything can happen – the wind can pick up, the waves can get mushy, the sets can slow down. You really have to be ready to adapt to what the ocean brings. Pushing myself out there during training and competitions has taught me so much patience, grit, and determination because the ocean is always humbling me and putting me in my place. These days, I’m finding other ways to chase my surfing dreams, fuel my “search” and stoke that inner drive to improve my skills! Now that I’m a mom of four, I’m focusing more on surfing with my kids! Raising children at the beach is not too bad, right? 😉 So to wrap this post we have got to be ready to adapt! If you’re wanting to overcome in any area of your life, I made an all access pass of every course I’ve created to live an unstoppable life. You’ll listen to incredible people you may have heard before including Tim Tebow, Bob Goff, Laird Hamilton, Gabby Reece, and more! 👀🥳 Comment: “overcome now” and I’ll send you a message with the details! When you’re a mom and navigating the daily tasks of raising children, balancing a business, and pursuing your passions (mine of course is surfing!) you need to make sure that you are running on all 4 cylinders. 💥🙌🏼 Otherwise you’ll find yourself feeling exhausted, overwhelmed, and stressed out! It’s hard to know how to navigate all the messages out there about health and nutrition. Health can be daunting and if you’re struggling, I want to encourage you to keep educating yourself! I’m always looking for how I can best fuel myself for surfing, but even more so motherhood and daily life. 👉🏼 So here’s where I have settled over the past few years and I have been blown away at how good I’ve been feeling and the amount of overall consistent energy that I’ve have!☀️🙌🏼 For me, it came down to the quality of minerals and vitamins that I was consuming, primarily in food sources; but also making sure I was getting enough food each day! My top diet changes the last few years have been upping my caloric intake and not restricting at all. Going more animal-based and consuming organs; like liver, heart, and kidneys! You’ve probably heard me talk about organ meats at this point, but they truly contain such high content of vitamins and minerals our bodies can readily absorb! 💛 I’d love to know a health change you’ve made that has changed your life for the better? I’m creating a free resource of all my favorite health brands, some advice, etc. If you comment “purpose” you’ll be added to my emails and know when it comes out! I’ll send you a message with the info. 🏄♀️ Hawaii Inspiring hope to overcome! This is a personal passion of mine and the mission of my non-profit, the @beautifullyflawedfoundation! Many of you know my life verse is John 16:33 where Jesus says, “In the world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” In the seasons of life where we experience challenges, hurdles, and pain, it’s so important to know and see that there is hope on the other side, that this is not the end of the story, and that overcoming is possible! 🙏🏼 This giving season, I’d love for you to consider making a donation to Beautifully Flawed to support their programs for young men and women with limb difference. Their life-impacting Beautifully Flawed retreats for women and Forge retreats for men are a time of healing, hope, and community for those who have gone through traumatic limb loss or were born with their limb difference. Seeing the impact of these retreats on so many attendees’ lives has just been such a beautiful thing to be part of. It encourages me to want to continue moving forward in something that I’m already passionate about! A lot of the retreat takes them out of their comfort zone, so my hope is that they carry forward in life with an overcoming kind of attitude – to not hide in the background all the time just because of their limb difference and to be their beautiful selves. 🙌🏽❤️ Being a nonprofit, the Beautifully Flawed Foundation retreats are truly only possible because of the financial generosity, prayers, and support of you and the community! Their end-of-year fundraising goal is $70,000 – can you help them?
