Exactly two weeks after his death, Alexei Navalny was laid to rest in Moscow today. Despite the risk of attending, thousands of mourners gathered to pay their respects.
The Russian opposition leader died in the IK-3 penal colony in Kharp, north of the Arctic Circle, where he had been held on politically motivated charges. His punishment a 19-year sentence. Only a few details of his death have been released. Officials say he collapsed after going for a walk. His wife believes he was killed by Vladimir Putin. Navalny who made global headlines when he was poisoned with nerve agent in 2020 encouraged Russians “not to give up” in the event of his death. Tributes have poured in from around the world, recognising his defiance and courage in the face of Russian brutality.
Rest in eternal love and peace, Alexei. You will never be forgotten by so many of us.
We pray for the continued courage and safety for Lyudmila, Anatoly and your family and loved ones.

Blessed with beautiful February weather and good company last week for the shooting of Italian doc Celebrity Wines, to talk about my love for Il Palagio and our wines. Grazie mille to our brilliant winemaker Riccardo Cotarella for joining me. Thanks to @esmeraldaspadea and @giacomoarrigoni for a fun and productive day! Stay tuned for the release in the next few months.

I am excited to announce that next Friday, my documentary #PossoEntrare —An Ode to Naples will be shown at the Dublin International Film Festival. This will be its first public screening outside of Italy and I’m so glad that I’ll be celebrating one of my favourite cities in Dublin, where I have spent many a happy time. If you’re there come along to the Lighthouse Cinema at 4pm, then at 6.30pm I’ll be doing an ‘In Conversation With’ event at The Complex, hosted by the talented director Rachel Carey.
Tickets can be bought online, for the film and the conversation event at 🔗 at top of my page

Two years on, the war in Ukraine continues, with cities subjected to relentless shelling every day. Peaceful homes and everyday infrastructure are being destroyed. People are forced to flee their homes, to save their children and themselves. Ukraine’s economy is being depleted, making survival increasingly difficult with each passing day.
Two years ago, when the war began, the world shook and rallied much effort to support Ukrainians. But our lives go on, unlike theirs. We grow accustomed to the news of war and shift our focus to our own pursuits. Today, on the grim days of the second anniversary of the invasion, it’s a good occasion to remember that Ukrainians still need our support.
Help Ukraine Center (@help_ukraine_center) is an organization Sting and I have been supporting since the start of the war. They have been receiving humanitarian aid shipments since the early days of the war and transporting them to Ukraine. The company has proven its reliability. Now is the time to support Help Ukraine, which aids displaced persons, medical professionals, volunteers, and ordinary Ukrainians. See how you can help at the link in bio.

This week for #femalefilmmakerfriday, I’m highlighting @emma.westenburg for her debut feature film #BleedingLoveMovie!
Emma trained at Rietveld Academy and the Cooper Union School of Art in NYC, where she developed her style of blending classic visual tropes, fashion, and fine art influences into her work. Her ability to shoot critically acclaimed, style-centric content, while remaining accessible to a diverse audience has made her a go-to director for musical artists, fashion labels, and globally recognized brands alike. In 2016, Emma was awarded Best New Fashion Film for ‘Blue and You’ at the Fashion Film Festival in Milan, and her work on Janelle Monet’s “Pynk” landed a Grammy nomination for Best Music Video in 2018.
Her debut feature, Bleeding Love, centres around a father who secretly drives his estranged daughter to rehab after she overdoses, aware that she has inherited his addiction problems, and after he has started a new family elsewhere. Along the way they meet all types of strangers, as their strained relationship is put to the test. Congratulations on your first feature Emma! I can’t wait to see how your beautiful and unique style translates to the big screen!

👁 The Visionary: Angaangaq Angakkorsuaq @angaangaq_. Presented by @trudiestyler
‘An innovative thinker who can see the path to a better world“
The Visionary honour goes to Angaangaq Angakkorsuaq, Inuit Kalaallit elder and storyteller from Greenland and carrier of the Qilaut (wind drum). As a advocate for the environment and Indigenous issues, he has lectured and participated in events in 70 countries in the world. His spiritual task – given by his mother – is to “melt the ice in the heart of men”.
It may be difficult to grasp and we tend to shut down when we hear scientists tells us that today the Greenland ice cap is losing an average of 30m tonnes of ice an hour due to the climate crisis, melting faster than most scientists predicted.
As Angaangaq says: We can’t plant ice – when it’s gone it’s gone. But we can protect it.

This week for #femalefilmmakerfriday, I want to spotlight @kaykaycannon for her upcoming film #MyExFriendsWedding!
Best known for writing and producing the Pitch Perfect series, Kay’s talent shines bright as a writer, producer, and director. As a Second City alumni, she is a powerhouse in the comedy space, writing for hit shows such as 30 Rock and New Girl, and making her directorial debut in 2018 with her movie Blockers.
Her latest project #MyExFriendsWedding, follows four childhood friends who receive a drunken voicemail from their former best friend on the eve of her wedding, asking for their help. Congrats, Kay, on what promises to be another hit. Let the laughs commence!
