Congratulations to our Chief Curator Naomi Beckwith on her stupendous Nick Cave show at the Guggenheim. They lead us on an otherworldly journey, mystical yet gritty, enchanting yet dark, celebratory yet somehow terrifying too. Here, a Tower gallery installed with a crowd of sound suits, a procession heralding a new (dis)order. #mustsee @guggenheim @nickcaveart #guggenheim #forothermore #vision
Who has ever seen Ai WeiWei in a TUX?! Congratulations to the bravest artist for winning the Praemium Imperiale in Tokyo today. WeiWei joins a roster of the greatest artists, thinkers, and architects who have shaped our lives, our imaginations, and our futures. @aiww #preamiumimperiale #awards #gamechangers
Yuja Wang at Carnegie Hall, playing four hours and 400 sheets (from memory) of all Rachmaninoff, from his first composition, Piano Concerto No 1, which he wrote at age 17, to Piano Concerto No 4, which he revised right up until his death in 1943. Yuja, wearing five different sequined mini dresses and 8-inch stilettos, gave us the greatest performance of my lifetime. She is a genius and a virtuoso, but that never comes before the music, which rises like dawn herself from her otherworldly musical soul. At the end of this historic marathon, Yannick fell to the stage floor and prostrated before her. Turn applause on! @carnegiehall @yujawang.official @nezetseguin #rachmaninoff #genius #prodigy #blowyourmind #yuja #yujawang #beauty
新年開了!Wonderful to be with old friends at a fabulous Lunar New Years Party in New York tonight. The excitement around China’s opening is palpable, and returning will be a highlight of 2023 for the Guggenheim, and for me. Happy Year of the Rabbit! #chinesenewyear #lunarnewyear2023 #caiguoqiang #yearoftherabbit
In Hong Kong, celebrating the international opening of M with Uli Sigg, whose collection gift grounds this impressive new museum with its stunning sweep of contemporary Chinese art history. The museum is a triumph, and shifts the gravitational forces to Asia. Congratulations to Suhanya Rafel whose leadership through the greatest challenges in recent history has assured the delivery of joy, after all. And to the founding team of curators whose feats and flights inspire a whole new museology for our time. #M @doryunchong @mplusmuseum #hongkong #abhk2023 #artbaselhongkong #triumph
In Venice, our show Yu Hong: Another One Bites the Dust opens at La Chiesetta della Misericordia, with Guggenheim Deputy Director and Chief Curator Naomi Beckwith toasting the Asian Art Initiative’s first off-site show. Congratulations to Yu Hong for a searing and virtuoso installation of paintings that confront the immediacy of life and fleshy fact of death set against gold ground, throwing us against the eternal. Thank you to Theresa Liang, Melanie Taylor, Miko McGinty, Marc Tutt, Max Logsdail, Lynessa Yang, Zoe Diao, ArtEvents and to Greg Hilty and Alex Logsdail for your contributions to what Yu Hong calls, A dream come true. At Christie’s NYC, thrilled to introduce Kulapat Yantrasast at the Inaugural Larsen Lecture, with LongHouse Reserve director Carrie Barrett. Kulapat spoke of Ise Shrine, the inspiration for Jack Lenor Larsen’s house in East Hampton. He finds synergy across many dimensions of the two sacred places. ISE = I for Inclusivity, bringing art and nature into a single world; S = Sustainability, maintaining and nurturing is culture; and E = Evolution, constantly changing is everlasting. Thank you, visionaries! #kulapatyantrasast #longhousereserve #WHY #evolution
Thrilled that @NewYorkTimes selected Yu Hong: Another One Bites the Dust as Top 8 Picks of the Biennial, with brilliant insight by critic @jasonfarago. ““Yu is doing what we used to expect all art to do; she is showing us how to live.” Congratulations to #yuhongstudio and @guggenheim! In Abu Dhabi for the Culture Summit, I met Ai-Da, the Ai Robot developed by the Oxfordians. Processing a civilization’s worth of art works, she has performed Yoko Ono’s Cut Piece! I asked here, Do you believe in God? And she replied, turning towards me with her pasty face and blue-grey eyes, “I do not have the capacity to believe in God, but I am very interested in the role of spirituality in human society.” The uncanny valley… #ai-da #robot #ai #yokoonoofficial #culturesummitabudhabi #abudhabi @yokoono @culturesummitad
Congratulations to Mariko Mori on her presentation of Peace Crystal at the opening show of Palazzo Diedo! This is a preview of the *arrival* of the environment across from the Accademia on June 15. It connects the deep time of human existence with the future of human capacity to imagine mystical experience. Honored to be curatorial advisor to the visionary Faou Foundation! And congratulations to Nicholas Bergruenn and Mario Codagnato! @palazzodiedo @venicebienalle2024 #marikomori

Congratulations to Jennifer Stockman and Amanda Kim for their visionary production of the film, Nam June Paik: The Moon is the First TV, which premiers this weekend at SUNDANCE! Pleased to have played a small role in the film, and moved to have known and worked with this brilliant, iconoclastic and totally futuristic artist, thinker, and inventor. The world must see this film and remember how it all started. #namjunepaik #bestdocumentary #sundancefilmfestival @sundanceorg @jbstockman
Arata Isozaki. He defined the postwar and contemporary Japanese avant-garde with his fierce intelligence, rigorous yet playful vision, his Neo-Dada provocations and architectural theses that willfully reimagined classical Japanese philosophical concepts, like 無and 間. He was a great friend and mentor of mine for decades. We showed his LaMOCA design in our 1983 Japan Society show, New Public Architecture from Japan, and he was a great ally in forging my 1994 book and show, Scream Against the Sky: Japanese Art since 1945. Along with Nam June Paik, Isozaki wrote an essay for the catalogue, describing the political and cultural gestalt of the early 1960s avant-garde in Tokyo. I used to have Sunday noodles in their Roppongi house, nestled in the trees, filled with Aiko’s tremulous sculptures, Man Ray photographs, and piles of GA magazines. I’ve lost – the world has lost – the three greatest East-West design revolutionaries of our time – Issey Miyake, Elsa Peretti, and now, Isozaki.感謝 #arataisozaki #arataisozakiarchitecture #pritzkerarchitectureprize #tokyo #aikomiyawaki #mentor
