This was a very special experience for me – thank you @tmagazine @nickkharamis and @hanyayanagihara for including me in this discussion. It was a thrill to be with these design giants to make a list of the 25 most defining pieces of furniture from the last 100 years. Obviously these are subjective opinions – what was most exciting for me was listening and learning from these incredibly experienced and diverse design experts – and thinking carefully about how design has broadened and touched our lives. This was an amazing group – thank you @rafcardy @paolantonelli @ummmsmile @tdelavan @daniel_romualdez

Mother knows best. #MaryAndGeorge premieres April 5 on the STARZ App.
This week my #WomanCrushWednesday is Sierra Barnett from Nashville, Tennessee. A seventh-generation Tennessean, mother, author, and leader within the Wilson County Moms Demand Action chapter, Sierra stands at the forefront of community activism, especially poignant today as Nashville commemorates one year since the tragic Covenant School shooting that claimed six lives, including three children.
Sierra reflects on the impact of the tragedy, noting, “for many of us, being so close to this tragedy rocked our worlds. It opened our eyes to public safety and activated our interest in legislation and becoming true community activists. We are mothers and others fighting daily to keep our children and community safe.”
Since founding the Wilson County Moms Demand Action chapter, Sierra has been a fixture at the Tennessee State Capitol, championing the cause for sensible gun control laws. Under her rallying statement of “DO SOMETHING,” Sierra has galvanized Tennesseans, bringing the fight against gun violence to traditionally conservative areas. Whether it’s leveraging social media, participating in legislative sessions, or engaging in grassroots conversations, Sierra’s efforts have been instrumental in shifting attitudes towards gun safety in Tennessee.
Reflecting on this past year, Sierra shares, “I’m filled with hope because people across my state and country are paying attention, showing up, and planning to vote for a better future for their kids and mine.”
As we remember The Covenant School, the collective action of Sierra and all those impacted in Nashville is a testament to the power of community engagement and a powerful example of how we can all do something to end gun violence.

Anne McWalter is my #WomanCrushWednesday. She leads a local @momsdemand group and is an @everytown Survivor Fellow from Delaware.
Anne’s own brush with gun violence initially left her believing her story should remain untold. But in 2018 she found Moms Demand Action and realized the importance and impactful of personal narratives. Leveraging her experience, she now champions fellow survivors, promotes secure gun storage practices, and has contributed to the enactment of crucial legislation.
Anne firmly believes that “Gun violence is everyone’s story. If there is a way to stop another person from going through this trauma, I will fight for that!”
Her efforts are currently focused on curbing gun violence locally, through collaboration with grassroots organizations to forge community-driven solutions. It’s my honor to spotlight Anne’s inspiring work and advocacy this #wcw.
Julvonnia McDowell is my #WomanCrushWednesday. Julvonnia is an incredibly passionate Survivor Membership Lead with @MomsDemand and a Senior Fellow with @Everytown Survivor Network.
In 2020, I had the privilege of meeting Julvonnia and listened to her journey as a mother whose 14 year old son, JaJuan, was taken by gun violence. While visiting family for spring break, JaJuan was shot and killed by another teen playing with an unsecured firearm. When expressing her grief to me and other survivors, Julvonnia emphasized, “there are so many gun owners who think, ‘my child is not going to touch it,’ but you never know…when a child gains access to an unsecured firearm [there are] consequences that can happen.”
Today, Julvonnia works to prevent unintentional shootings by children through her advocacy with Be SMART, a public education campaign that spreads awareness on how secure gun storage—storing guns locked, unloaded, and separate from ammunition—can save children’s lives. On the heels of Everytown for Gun Safety’s latest research marking 2023 as the year with the highest number of unintentional shootings by children, Julvonnia’s story is more important than ever. “Behind every statistic are real stories of kids like my son JaJuan and too many other families like mine…This is an issue we all need to worry about, because whether it’s your gun or not, believe me, it could be your child.”
I am moved by Julvonnia’s strength and determination as a mother, survivor, and an advocate for keeping children safe.
