Today’s #WomanCrushWednesday goes to Rev. Ingrid Rasmussen, lead pastor at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Minneapolis, who is a remarkably powerful voice for faith-rooted action to end gun violence. In the two months since the devastating mass shooting at Annunciation Church School in Minneapolis, Rev. Rasmussen has been a steadfast advocate for peace, moral leadership, and public safety rooted in compassion. This month, she helped lead seven days of prayer and action, where faith leaders from across the state gathered daily on the steps of the Minnesota State Capitol to pray for victims of gun violence and call for change. But she didn’t stop there: Rev. Rasmussen supported the creation of a letter urging Governor Walz and Minnesota lawmakers to call a special legislative session to ban assault weapons and take meaningful action on gun safety. The letter is now signed by more than 1,000 leaders of all faith traditions across Minnesota. As she writes, “Faith compels us to do more than pray, it calls us to act.” @ingcaras, thank you for demonstrating the moral courage to make a safer, more peaceful world. #WCW
My #WomenCrushWednesday this week is Audrey Samora, a @studentsdemand leader in San Antonio, Texas. Audrey, who along with many of her peers has experienced gun violence firsthand, joined Students Demand Action as a freshman in high school. She quickly became a powerful voice in the movement, planning events like a Students Demand Action open mic night for people to share their experiences with gun violence. This past year, she also helped bring her fellow volunteers to Advocacy Day at the state capitol. Now in a leadership role, Audrey has carried that momentum forward by organizing meetings, fundraisers, and other community events, connecting with the San Antonio City Council to advance gun safety policies, and pushing for gun safety resolutions with her school board. Audrey is known to be an encouraging and intentional leader. She’s consistently thoughtful about uplifting diverse voices and is not afraid of challenges. I’m proud to be in this fight with her. My #WomanCrushWednesday this week is Amaya Waymon, a @studentsdemand volunteer at Tuskegee University in Alabama. On November 10, 2024, Amaya was celebrating her University’s 100th homecoming weekend when two gunmen using handguns equipped with Glock switches began shooting at people exiting and entering the party. Amaya was one of 16 people wounded during the shooting. A classmate, 18-year-old La’Tavion Johnson, was killed. Within days, Amaya founded her university’s first-ever Students Demand Action group. And in March of 2025, Amaya was named for her leadership by Republican Governor Kay Ivey when Ivey signed a law making Alabama the 25th state to ban Glock switches and similar conversion devices that transform semi-automatic firearms into illegal machine guns. A changemaker, @theambitiousadvocate continues to organize at Tuskegee and support students affected by the shooting. Her leadership has had a direct impact on campus safety and on recent policy decisions in Alabama. #wcw #bhm
