I’d never done water flow therapy in my life, in fact I’m afraid of the ocean and not a great swimmer. But @rancholapuerta gifted me with an opportunity to try, and Ben my practitioner was so patient in explaining it all to me before we ever began. What you see here in the video is just the beginning moments of him getting me comfortable with the float straps on my legs because I didn’t want to film the actual experience. I wanted that to be private. I felt such a sense of well being from the treatment. I was able to be tumbled under water and went upside down without any fear. For the first time I wasn’t under tension holding my breath under water. But more importantly, the experience felt almost womblike, and then it felt like I was being held by a comforting friend whom I trusted completely. It’s hard to describe without sounding corny and I think these kinds of things really depend on the practitioner. But Ben was truly wonderful. I will never forget it and I’ll never forget you Ben.

The more you know! 🌈
There are so many ways to make dal, but this is my version and I truly could eat it every day – sometimes I do!
Tomorrow I’ll be sharing my tadka dal recipe, so I wanted to give a little background for those who are unfamiliar with tadka. Tadka in Hindi, or poorichukotal in Tamil, is used to impart flavor to all sorts of dishes in Indian cuisine. It also wakes up the flavors of the spices and aromatics you’re using by frying them in oil or ghee separately first before adding them into your dish.
Sometimes what you need is to disconnect so that you can connect with your loved one. Littlehands and I were invited to visit a very special wellness center and magical place called @rancholapuerta in Tecate, Mexico for spring break last week. It was gorgeous. We saw magnificent views while hiking every day at the crack of dawn. We also did hip hop exercise classes, Pilates, water flow therapy and aerial yoga. The food was simply made and vegetable forward. Mostly vegetarian with a smattering of eggs, dairy and fish upon request.  They have a wonderful farm where they grow their vegetables as well as goats for cheese. Everyone was super friendly and you really felt a sense of community. It’s been going for 84 years now and the founder Deborah Szekely will celebrate her 102nd birthday next month when she plans to come to NYC to see a few broadway shows. I hope I am as energetic and make it to her age! All in all it was a week in the outdoors hiking and bonding with no internet or television, and plenty of sunshine.

Roberto Cavalli gave me my first big fashion campaign. He was funny and sweet. Over the years I’d lost touch with him and his wife Eva but I will always have a sweet spot for this brand. RIP @roberto_cavalli

In 2009 we launched the Center for Gynepathology Research at MIT (@centerforgynresearch ) – the first lab of its kind in the country. Every few years or so I pop in to check on what’s going on and it is always incredible to learn from everyone involved in this important research of endometriosis, infertility, pre-term birth, sexually-transmitted disease, and other pathologies of the female reproductive tract. Fifteen years later I’m still so excited to see everything unfold! Sending a big thank you to all the scientists who took the time to patiently explain the details of their work!

This one is for all of you who were wondering where to get coconut for the coconut rice I shared with you the other day. If you’re not shredding your own coconut (it’s fun I promise!!), frozen shredded coconut is preferable to dry. And make sure it is unsweetened!
