TRUTH! One of the reasons I loathe being in negative, transphobic spaces where people are close minded is because I feel that my voice is being wasted on bricks, molded, unable to change shape blocking the view and interrupting progress, however when you belong to the space you must turn fear in to caution and proceed.
The first time I returned to my island, I was filled with anxiety, but I pushed through with the support of my Papi, my sister and her husband. The second time I returned to my Island there was anxiety once again, however I focused on business, and in the blink of an eye, I was on my way back to New York. Both times I was on high alert within. This time anxiety Was not an issue I embraced my island fully, knowing that anything was possible but believing in the possibility of growth and I admired the respect and love that I received from so many of my fellow #trinbagonian🇹🇹 this time I didn’t go ready to defend. I went ready to embrace and teach where necessary from perspective of.#leadwithkindness and #leadwithlove

It was absolutely fantastic to share space with the students at the University of New Haven this past week. In honor of #womenshistorymonth I was their guest speaker and it is moments like this that reconfirm the importance of representation, visibility and ownership of self and self truth. We must allow others to have access to stand on our shoulders the way that we now stand on the shoulders of those that came before us, many sacrificing so much including their lives for us to have a better more inclusive society and world.
