Over the next few years, we would encounter pandemics, the pitfalls of writing, and the enormous task of trying to figure out how to tell the story of John Kenley, who lived to be 103, spent their summers in Ohio as John, the Broadway impresario who founded the Kenley Players, and spent their winters in Florida as Jean, an intersex trans sex worker. • • This musical has been the most challenging and rewarding project to work on. 6 years after that first meeting, seeing these characters coming to life onstage is one of the greatest gifts I could have ever asked for!
