Are We There turns 10 this year, which has had me reflecting on so many things … am I where I thought I would be in my 40s? how did we expect our lives to unfold over 10 years? from when I wrote the record to now, so much has changed. everything has changed. my mentality, my surroundings, my family, and how I see the world. It’s hard to say where “there” was when I wrote the record and if I’ve reached it yet. So…. I want to ask you all:
are we there?
I would love to hear your thoughts, stories, ruminations…
I myself don’t have an answer, but in the past couple weeks i’ve put together some thoughts on the past and present, on how time has shaped my life. I hope some of it resonates with you. (Cont…) John Congleton came to me during a time I was banging my head against the wall trying to re-record my demos and they kept losing their meaning. He breathed new life into them along with his incredible circle of musicians he brought into the studio and I am forever grateful we have this moment in time captured. Happy anniversary to all that played a part in the making and the fans that supported me through this new phase of life and my career. It keeps me going. ❤️

I believe it airs 11/8??? Close To You (not The Carpenters song) comes a little later in the series but the show wanted to release it early and I am all for it. I hope you enjoy it as much as we enjoyed making it.

Ok so I’ve had a few people reach out and ask if I’m doing ok just cause I haven’t posted in a while. Thank you to Joanna for taking us out and immersing ourselves in nature and challenging us to our first trail ride. Everyone at @traillovers was so incredible. Hope to come back some day. We won’t ever forget. ❤️
Remind Me Tomorrow marked the first record I made after becoming a mother. Forged during a time of soul searching and self discovery. The photo on the cover of the album represents not only the chaos and peace and happiness of life, but of a friendship with a mother, Katherine Dieckmann, a filmmaker and professor at Columbia University who took me under her wing and encouraged me to write my first score for her film Strange Weather. She gave me the confidence to try new pathways through writing music and I was in awe of how she balanced her work, life, and family. I am proud of this time period because I was able to let go of the songs and allow other people to help lift them up in a way I wasn’t able to at the time. More to come…
