The journey. The other day, I got a call from someone I hold very dear and look at for the occasional sting of reality, as prescribed. He suffers from what some call street Tourette’s. Doesn’t busy himself with rewrites. His mouth moves before his thoughts are fully formed and shortly, there’s a spillover in my lap. I usually walk home thinking about the big stain of honesty on my pants, at peace and in comfort. He had just watched episode 3. It went like this (1/3) #1883TV #paramountplus

The humility and gratitude with which you’ve met Thomas make my heart burst with joy and pride. I cannot imagine anyone being more deserving of telling this story. Ummm, this woman, yes?” with the cadence of someone who just barged into an airport to say one more and perhaps the only thing I needed to hear before getting on a plane to a place I know nothing of. And I’m just about to take my other shoe off and go through a pat down and he got no business being there and he’s about to find out. Close enough. “Yes. Christina. Christina Voros” I faintly said and before plunging into the rest of the sentence, “Ok. Listen. You need to keep her. Yeah? That’s what you need to do. She will protect an actor’s performance. She’ll shield and nurture your vulnerability. That’s the most you can ask for as an artist. You hold on to her, yeah?” All of a sudden, all the Christina stories, just waiting for the slightest air bubble in his urgency to muscle in, dissipated. My heart smiled. He already knew all of them. I knew I was one lucky sumbitch. And I marveled at his intuition. Once again. Christina is all that and more. The day we shot this scene I will hold in my heart forever and her with it. This whole year I will hold in my heart forever. I was taught that when the universe gives you something, it will turn around before the door closes all the way and slap you with the bill. This year, I came closer than ever to the door slam refashioned into a familiar soothing sound. All the many human shaped gifts left on my counter. And the old ones rising. I’ve never felt this rich. I have endless stories oozing of generosity and kindness that I can only hope will rub off on me. I’ll trade you one for a glass of old fashioned one day. There’s a sticky trail of gratitude and marvel I leave behind all over 2021. I hope you step in it. I hope it’s contagious. We’ll never be able to reclaim this word, will we?
