Caption : Here are 5 things I stopped doing in my 50’s that physical & mental health: 1. 🍷🚫I stopped drinking alcohol! Alcohol was a part of my life for 30 years. I’m not saying it was easy to quit, especially since alcohol is at nearly EVERY social occasion and celebration, but cutting alcohol out of my life is the single best thing I’ve ever done for my health. 2. 🍎🍌I stopped snacking on fruit! I used to grab a piece of fruit mid day to get me to dinner. However, research reveals (as well as a continuous glucose monitor I wore to test it myself) that fruit is not the best thing to snack on. Fruit contains fructose, which can spike blood sugar levels and lead you down a path of eating more. It’s best to eat fruit AFTER a meal, not as a snack by itself. 3. 👟 💪I stopped looking for excuses to take the day off of the gym. Caption : Here are 5 things I stopped doing in my 50’s that physical & mental health: 1. 🍷🚫I stopped drinking alcohol! Alcohol was a part of my life for 30 years. I’m not saying it was easy to quit, especially since alcohol is at nearly EVERY social occasion and celebration, but cutting alcohol out of my life is the single best thing I’ve ever done for my health. 2. 🍎🍌I stopped snacking on fruit! I used to grab a piece of fruit mid day to get me to dinner. However, research reveals (as well as a continuous glucose monitor I wore to test it myself) that fruit is not the best thing to snack on. Fruit contains fructose, which can spike blood sugar levels and lead you down a path of eating more. It’s best to eat fruit AFTER a meal, not as a snack by itself. 3. 👟 💪I stopped looking for excuses to take the day off of the gym. Halloween is one of them! And while a little indulging is sweets is fine, the sugar crash that follows is not great for our bodies and could sabotage our eating choices for DAYS following that indulgence. 👎🏻 🎢The best way to get off the glucose roller coaster is to never get on in the first place. But does that mean never indulging? NO! Read on ⬇️ 🩸Blood glucose levels normally rise and fall depending on what we eat. But highly processed, sugar-laden treats, like Halloween candy, cause our glucose levels to rise to new heights 📈and then come crashing down 📉BELOW our starting point. This signals our body that our blood sugar is low, making us hungry again. It’s a vicious cycle that zaps our energy and expands our waistlines. Fear not my friends! Caption : I felt like a hypocrite. I am a health coach but looked for every reason to drink. 18 months ago, I was in your exact shoes…SOBER CURIOUS. I LOVED my cocktails.😅🍸 It all started post pandemic, I saw the rise in alcohol consumption within a lot of my clients and within myself. I dove deep into the marketing and the health risks of alcohol. When I entered my 50’s, I noticed my body was not bouncing back so easily. I was working at about 90% the following morning. You may be shocked 😱on my take on counting Macros (specifically protein). 😃On today’s show, join me as meal prep my weekly lunches! 🌅My first meal of the day is the most important, for sure! But that meal, for me, is LUNCH! 🍽️ ⏱️I’ve been doing Internittent Fasting for 30 years! My MORNING HEALTHY AGING ROUTINE: 🌅I wake up ☀️get outside to get early morning light in my eyes. 🍵drink a thermos full of green tea. 🥶take a cold plunge 🚨A little red light therapy 🏋️♀️Exercise on an empty stomach 🥗THEN I eat as many colorful plants as I can for LUNCH around 1pm. Here is what I made for my next 3 lunches.. MIXED VEGGIE STIR FRY: 2 tablespoons olive oil 1/2 white onion 4 cloves garlic 3 stalks broccoli chopped 2 stalks celery sliced 1-2 cup asparagus chopped 1-2 cup green beans 1 cup mushrooms sliced 3 carrots sliced Dash of low sodium soy sauce 1/2-1 container firm tofu cut into cubes. Directions: Stir fry the harder vegetables on medium heat with olive oil for about 10 minutes, maintaining the crunchy texture as they will be reheated for the next few days. Add mushrooms and tofu. Cook 5 more minutes. Add soy sauce and cook a few more minutes. Sprinkle with black sesame seeds. 👩🍳This recipe changes every week, depending on which vegetables are local, in season, or I can find organically grown. 😃Make sure you check out the live show I did on diet fads and how reducing your protein intake can help you live longer & better.
