David Soul was a massive childhood hero of mine. Starsky & Hutch was hands down my favourite TV show as a kid, (along with The Six Million Dollar Man) and the adaptation of Stephen King’s ‘Salem’s Lot’ in which he starred with James Mason, scared the living shit out of me like nothing before or since. Sometime in the mid 90’s I saw David at a party, I don’t usually do this sort of thing but I simply had to say something to him, so I nervously approached and said “David. Every kid on every street in every town used to play Starsky & Hutch… and I was always Hutch because I had blonde hair…” he considered this and looked at me for a few seconds, and said “You know what kid… I was always Hutch too.” He then gave me a playful, pretend punch on the jaw, smiled his Hutch smile, and walked away. 😍🤯 What a guy. RIP David Soul. And thank you 🙏🏼💔 x

The original 1970 film directed by Michael Lindsay Hogg has been restored and given the Peter Jackson treatment, with the brilliant @mashupmartin working his magic. If, like me, you’ve only seen this on a grainy, VHS bootleg, it’s revelatory, like having a dark veil lifted, It looks and sounds magnificent. After watching ‘Get Back’ (hands down the greatest thing that’s ever been on screen) and seeing the story behind it, this is a truly wonderful watch. It’s joyous.
