Caption : Mr. Hammers was a whopping 17-years-old. Born to the @noahkalina family and the half brother of Wikipedia Siberian example Bean, Charles Wolfgang Hammers (Hamburger, HW, Hamslice, Hambologna, Hammertime, Senior Hamburglar, Comet in Very Mary-Kate, Mr. Man) was a dire wolf of cats: gorgeous and ruthless. He once nabbed and ate a hummingbird without breaking eye contact with me. Another time, he escaped for three days, only to return home casually as we were posting “MISSING” signs throughout the neighborhood. When we were burgled in Brooklyn, the burglars left the backdoor open and we thought we lost him — but they had tucked him in the bathroom, because he commands that much respect. He got one bath in his life, and required 3x the average dose of Gabapentin to sedate him. In the middle of the night, he would caterwaul in a way that can only be described as haunting. In my many attempts to hold him, he gave me countless permanent scars; tattoos to remember his ferocity by. But every so often, and especially in his old age, he would lay by you and – without you putting a hand on him – purr like a like self-starting lawnmower. Touching him anywhere below the neck would be at your own peril – he’d dig into you like a venus flytrap – but head neck and ear scratches were met with squinty-eyed appreciation. If you were lucky enough to get him on your lap or chest for a few minutes, you would feel like the Chosen One — before he would shake his head and cover you in sticky drool. As Elaine would always say, “short visit”… except his was ultimately a deliciously long one: most of our adult lives together. Hammers passed away peacefully this afternoon. It was the only peaceful thing he ever did. Hammers, in another world you would have a giant iron statue erected in your honor. I hope this post suffices. Love you forever little man.Likes : 37946

Caption : My first impression of Sam? The first time I met him was the weekend we moved into the dorms at Boston U. We were all little more than horny teenagers unpacking our suitcases, when a fight broke out between three boys. It was the first night everyone had moved in, and what started as a playful fight quickly escalated into something real. It was clear someone was getting hurt, but everyone, including me, stood around and watched, going, “omg what do we do we’re teeeenagers.” Then out of nowhere, pimple-faced Sam pushed his way into the room. He held up his arms and said, “Unacceptable!” in a booming voice like some kind of level-headed dad. The fight immediately ended and no one was seriously injured, and I remember being so impressed with that Sam guy. He didn’t go looking for a teacher, he didn’t seek approval from his peers. He just Did the Right Thing. Anyway, that put him on my radar, and he’s been on my radar ever since. This was 19 years ago. These pictures have nothing to do with the story, but I’m posting them because I look cute and this is Instagram after all. Sam is kind. Sam is smart. Sam is talented. He’s generous, he’s strong, he’s peacemaking, and my god is he funny, I mean, have you SEEN his dance videos? (Not to mention all the other videos he’s made his whole career.) He’s passionate, he’s sexy, he’s dedicated, he’s a great listener and pretty good sous chef. And you wanna know what else? He’s a freaking nerd who’s great at video games and undefeated at Type Racer, and he does this really bad impression of Durnald Trurmph that makes me laugh so hard, I swear, it feels like medicine. And in the 19 years we’ve been in love, he’s never ONCE taught me any of his magic tricks despite all my asking, and goddamnit I respect it. If you’re still reading, then yes, you guessed it: today is @samreich birthday. Please do me favor and Shower him with love. Make it rain for this man. He deserves it. Happy birthday, my love. I know you’re trying to do a no-sugar thing, but there’s gonna be so much pie and cake and other nonsense when you get home.Likes : 1002

Caption : Today is my birthday, and I can’t imagine a better gift than having spent the last month making #remotemovie with such kind, talented, legendary people while also laughing my butt off. It was the most fun I’ve had in years — so much so that I had to reinstall this app and tell everyone. This town can make you feel like a small fish in a (toxic) pond, but this project made me feel like the world’s luckiest lobster. 🦞 #sixmoviesandaseasonLikes : 882
