So this sassy little widget rocks up at the gate like butter wouldn’t melt in her mouth, after disappearing into thin air eight months ago! We had written her off for either stolen and used as a hunting dog, shot by Neighbours for messing with sheep, or caught in fencing somewhere… She’s never left our thoughts and hearts, and every brindle dog we saw on the road we stopped reversed or U-turned and scoured like maniacal stalkers. Turns out, she’s been living the life of Riley two farms away where an employees little girl had been feeding her cookies, specifically alfajores, if you know, you know. They are fairly irresistible… Of course Selkie wasn’t going to come back in a hurry but she was delighted to see us all which was at least some comfort. They renamed her obviously and as she’s been living with them now for the last eight months, they put an ad on social media the day after she went missing that was almost identical to ours… (how they missed ours is slightly questionable , but we’ll turn a blind eye as shes been treated very well) Funny the stories we create in our minds… Many of you had been asking and truly we have been stumped. We have decided, to give her back to the little girl, it’s the best possible outcome for everybody. she remains in our neighborhood, safe and loved by people who adore her. At the end of the day, sometimes we are just a pitstop for some creatures, a safe haven on their journey, the only thing that we ask is if they should ever run into any issues that she be returned to us, where she will always have a loving home and family. ‘This being human is a guesthouse…. Its a life of pure misery and slavery.
Permanently tethered from birth, pulling oversized carts, through polluted and dangerous streets.
Many live and die this way without ever so much as seeing a field or another horse except in passing in similar states.
we are currently en route to see him in a fairly dangerous area 3 hours away in Montevideo, to assess his situation and work out if we can justify bringing him back to the Orphanage. He’s a fully intact stallion, who’s hooves are completely out of control as you can see in the images and we’re not sure what else we might find.
As he’s a senior, he’ll need a lot of medical care and attention for his final years and obviously a castration.
if we’re going to bring him home, we’ll need all the support we can get.

The legend formally known as El Negreto has officially been liberated to a life of endless joy, love, free pastures and frolicking with a tribe of buddies by his side to accompany him on his final chapter in this incarnation as a horse 🙌🏾
To the 28 angels thus far who donated and made this happen… from our team here and this little rasta man we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

We CAN alchemize pain into power when we all put our energy together.
May his story and his journey of suffering have not been in vain as we continue our fight on his behalf, and for all the other millions like him who live a life of continued slavery and torture.
A living symbol for all beings who live under the reign of subjugation and supremacy.
And in the spirit of his namesake, he shall go on to be a representation of truth, integrity, spirit…a fighter and beacon of strength and justice for all his kind.
Hes got a road of recovery ahead with surgery tomorrow and a ton of work to do on his hooves and legs which have been crippled by years of pulling obscenely heavy carts down tar paved roads for the entirety of his life.
It should never have come to this but at least for the remainder of his life he’ll know what it is and was to be loved, respected as an individual sovereign entity and most importantly to be a horse….
