Grammy-Winning Artist Shervin Hajipour Sentenced to Over 3 Years in Prison Shervin Hajipour announced via an Instagram video that his appeal for the protest song “Baraye” was unsuccessful, confirming a sentence of three years and eight months. Shapour Bakhtiar: A Staunch Secularist and a Devoted Democrat Throughout his life, Bakhtiar championed the cause of democracy and remained steadfast in his beliefs. He was one of hundreds of dissidents to be extrajudicially executed by the Islamic Republic, a state-sponsored crime for which Iran was never held accountable.
