I can’t quite believe the journey between these two photos…taken twelve years apart. In the second photo, taken on the day I arrived at work at the 2012 Paralympic Games in London, I’m in the park, overwhelmed with joy to be part of such a momentous occasion. My role? Reading the weather in the Paralympic breakfast show on Channel 4! To say I was excited would be an understatement! I don’t think I slept for the whole two weeks—buzzing at the change we all felt in the air thanks to Channel 4’s groundbreaking rebrand of the Games. Twelve years later, I’m in Stamford, Connecticut in the US, equally as overwhelmed to be yet again involved in this now global Paralympic movement, and…here to host my own show, every single day, for the next 12 days..and in so doing, making history. I’m not sure how to mark this milestone in my life, this massive moment, other than to sit still for a second, stare at the younger me and tell her well- fuckin-done gal. Twelve years of relentless graft, twelve years of setbacks and knockbacks, being told there was no place for people like me in TV, but still, twelve years of dreaming, planning, networking and hoping….and here I am. And so look, I’m not great with the advice, but if anyone out is reading this and is, like that young gal on the right, unsure how they are going to get where to want to go, unsure where they belong, or how they will figure it all out, just keep moving forward. That’s all you have to do. And never ever quit. Oh and say YES even when you are terrified. ——————— Join us live on NBC at 1 p.m. ET for the pre-opening ceremony show and every day from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET. Best of luck to all of the athletes who are now in Paris and raring to go!!! We got you! Thank you, NBC, for #MakingSpace for me to Host the Paris Paralympics. It’s been one of the most challenging but rewarding jobs of my career to date. Six hours of solo live broadcasting on a multiport event. As our brilliant NBC leader Amy Rosenfeld said, “It doesn’t get much harder than that.” I was by no means perfect in my performance, but I gave it my all, and I am so proud to be a small part of such an important moment and movement. Congrats to all the athletes who participated in the games. You made us—disabled and non-disabled folks alike—proud. Bring on LA28!! Thank you to ALL the team – Katherine (the most efficient, dependable and joyful runner imaginable), Jennings, Alexa, Beth, Nina, Andy, Kim, Jermicia, all the Glam Squad, the production team and fellow hosts – you are the best of the best. As they say in America “I appreciate you” and as we say in the U.K. “I am KNACKERED”. So now….sleep…. #TVHost #MakingSpace #Paralympics #NBC #Sports #LIVETV #DisabledAndProud #RepresentationMatters #HistoryMakers #Paralymic2024 #FemaleEmpowerment
What. A. Day. Happy wedding day my gal. I 💕💕💕💕 you so much, it’s actually kinda achy 🥹. Party hard tonight and, just when you think you might go home, ask yourself, #WWSD (…aside from actually going f**king home 🙄)

As I am unable to attend a message to those who can: have a wonderful time and celebrate your efforts! We need as MANY advocates as possible in this world. Not just in the US but everywhere! And, with mass disabling events like the ongoing Genocide in Palestine happening, I hope today some time is made for difficult conversations. There is a letter being delivered to President Biden today demanding that the Administration take immediate action for disabled Palestinians. UNICEF estimates that a thousand children in Gaza have become amputees since the conflict began in October. Palestinians with disabilities face immeasurable access-related barriers under this genocidal war. This includes both those who were disabled before October 7, 2023 and all who have become (and are becoming) disabled since. Evacuation is not an option for most. For disabled Palestinians who are able to evacuate, there are ongoing accounts of assistive devices being lost and destroyed. For those newly injured and sick with cancer, diabetes, and other chronic illnesses, there is no medical treatment available. There is no morphine or anesthesia for amputations or any medical procedures. Language and communication access is also extremely limited. Additionally, the physical and psychosocial trauma being inflicted on the entire population is a catastrophic mental health crisis. When the needs of people with disabilities are met, it benefits everyone. This is the same in the U.S. as it is in Palestine. Centering the needs of Palestinians with disabilities will benefit all Palestinians and all people in the region, including Israelis with and without disabilities. President Biden has the power to demand that Israel eliminate the “dual-use” label on medical-related supplies, assistive aids, and accessible technology like eyeglasses, wheelchairs, canes, & hearing aids, etc. To learn more, copy and paste: https://www.breakingthesilenceongaza.org/initiatives. It’s the start of #SpinalCordInjury ‘Awareness’ month, so, as someone who has lived with one for over two decades, here’s what I want to make you aware of.. SCI impacts tens of thousands of people, with someone injured every 4 hours in the U.K. alone. And it’s fucking brutal. If you’re lucky, after an SCI, you might recover some of your sensory or motor function, but typically, once your spine is injured, your body is never the same. SCI takes away your ability to communicate with your body, and with that comes a loss of agency and, often, independence and freedom (as we know it). Your basic bodily functions, such as your ability to walk, piss, shit, fuck, feel, and run….will be impacted and, in most instances, taken away from you entirely. And for most people with SCI, life will be navigated with some mobility aid, such as a cane or wheelchair, forever. In general, these devices carry with them a toxic and often immutable amount of stigma, and you end up having to battle that on top of all your physical battles. So, life as you know it will also never EVER be the same. And the worst part is, it can happen to anyone at any time. BUT – and yes, there is a BUT – there is life on the other side of a spinal injury. It takes a while to figure it out, but with the proper support, it’s out there. I promise. The growth, the community, the perspective, the gratitude, the connection, and the purpose that comes post-trauma are profound, and while we still have to work on the world around us, being less cunty towards how we react to the situation and what we make of it, is entirely up to us. I won’t say it’s easy; it’s not, but it’s not necessarily the tragedy you might imagine. I’ve spent twenty years working out how to live WITH the paralysis in my body and have learned just how much life it has given me. So, if you are newly injured, just keep going; it will get easier. And if you are reading this and think you are impervious, just be careful – remember, disability happens to everyone at some point in their lives, so don’t take your body for granted. And don’t make assumptions about our lives either. HAPPY SCI MONTH, my fellow paras and quads.👊🏻

A whirlwind couple of weeks back in England (with a weekend in Provence thrown in), and I feel topped up with boundless energy thanks to all the U.K. essentials – my bonkers pals, my incredible family (inc. dogs), raves in cars and fields, weddings, swims, campaign wins, lots and lots of crumpets! Plus, a few VERY exciting new projects are taking shape. It’s been brilliant. So sad to leave but the time has come to take on the biggest and best job of my life to date…hosting the Paralympics for NBC!! Bring it on! ✈️🇺🇸
