‼️ Trigger warning. The Islamic Republic has claimed yet another innocent life. Renowned journalist and activist Kianoosh Sanjari, 42, had resisted the regime since he was a young student. He had been imprisoned, held in solitary confinement, tortured, and continued to be surveilled and persecuted. Yesterday he took to X to warn that he would take his own life if 4 political prisoners were not freed by dawn. They, of course, were not. And our pleas to Kianoosh failed. This is a devastating loss for Iran and the human rights community. As suicide rates continue to surge in Iran, this is a reminder that much needs to be done to support those in need and that we must stand united to prevent the loss of innocent lives, because the regime wants nothing more than the death and destruction of brave souls like Kianoosh. کیانوش عزیز، چرا رفتی؟ 💔 لعنت بر این رژیم.
Harvard professor @arthurcbrooks reminds us that true happiness isn’t about wealth, power, or fame, but about the depth of our relationships, meaningful work, and living with purpose. Organizational psychologist @adamgrant adds that happiness isn’t just about reaching goals—it’s about aligning those goals with our values. And that “achievement without impact is fleeting.” I couldn’t agree more. For me, authenticity and personal integrity are non-negotiable. After traveling across 6 continents, I’ve learned that happiness is as diverse as the cultures we experience. What does #happiness mean to you?”
Courage is the refusal to submit to oppression. This brave Iranian women, a student at Iran’s Islamic Azad University, took her clothes off in protest after a regime agent tore her clothes for “inappropriate hijab.” She was later thrown into an unmarked van and her location is currently unknown. The global media headlines may not reflect this, but Iranians continue to resist their bloodthirsty regime every day. #WomanLifeFreedom #FreeIran

German citizen and U.S. national #JamshidSharmahd has been brutally executed by the Islamic Republic, as confirmed by its own media. Abducted from the UAE and taken to Iran in 2020, he endured unjust imprisonment, torture, and was denied due process. Jamshid was a devoted father to Gazelle and Shayan, who campaigned tirelessly to save him, carrying forward his spirit of resistance. This tragedy marks a moment of reckoning. Both Germany and the U.S. failed him and his family, as did the global community. Will we continue to stand by while this regime murders innocents, spreads terror, and oppresses its own people? For the sake of humanity, our silence and complacency must end—NOW.
Cannes 2024 Jury Special Prize and Fipresci award winner “The Seed of the Sacred Fig” is a gripping and evocative love letter to the courageous people of Iran who have risked everything in their fight for freedom from an oppressive theocracy. This film doesn’t just tell a story; it seizes your heart and awakens your conscience. Meeting Iranian dissident filmmaker Mohammad Rasoulof, who defied all odds to create this powerful piece, was an unforgettable honor. His daring escape across treacherous borders to avoid an eight-year prison sentence for his art exemplifies the indomitable spirit of resistance. This film is a testament to the power of storytelling, showing how cinema can expose deep injustices and spark the demand for change. Next to Mr. Rasoulof is his incredible daughter Baran. He reunited with her and his wife in Germany after 7 years apart because of the Islamic Republic regime. 🤍 #WomanLifeFreedom در کنار هم برای یک ایران آزاد

During the Woman, Life, Freedom protests, the Ekbatan complex was consistently one of the prominent scenes of anti-government demonstrations. In response, IRGC and Basij forces were repeatedly deployed to the area to suppress the protests and intimidate its residents. On November 14, 2024, Branch 13 of the Criminal Court of Tehran Province sentenced six residents involved in the Ekbatan case to death—individuals widely known in the media as the “Ekbatan Kids.” Who are the “Ekbatan Kids,” and why were they sentenced to death?
🚨Los Angeles community: please join us for an in-person event on Friday, September 20, 2024 from 2:00 – 5:30 pm PT at The Promise Institute of Human Rights at UCLA School of Law in Los Angeles, California. Two years after the killing of Mahsa Jina Amini and the emergence of the Woman, Life, Freedom movement, victims and survivors have yet to see justice for the atrocity crimes and human rights violations committed against them. Yet there are robust documentation and litigation efforts underway to address this impunity gap. In light of this work, some groups in the Iran Digital Archive Coalition including @mnemonicorg @promiseinstucla @slpjustice @iran.hrdc @hrcberkeley and Azadi Archive will be hosting an event to discuss ongoing efforts and the pathway forward to achieve accountability for human rights violations carried out during the Woman, Life, Freedom protests. The event will begin with a brief introduction to the Iran Digital Archive Coalition, followed by a panel of representatives from the coalition who will present the findings of each of their organization’s reports on recent human rights abuses. Following a short break, we will be joined by Elahe Tavakolian, who will share her perspective as a protester from the Woman, Life, Freedom movement. Finally, the event will conclude with a conversation between Sara Hossain, Chair of the UN Independent International Fact-Finding Mission on the Islamic Republic of Iran (@iranffm) and Actor & Activist, Nazanin Boniadi. Register for this in-person event at the link in my bio 🙏🏼

✊ Swipe to find a rally near you! On September 16, we solemnly mark the second anniversary of the killing of 22-year-old Kurdish woman Mahsa Jina Amini in police custody in Iran—a tragic event that ignited the global “Woman, Life, Freedom” movement and sparked widespread calls for justice, freedom, and human rights. We also honor the memory of the innocent lives lost during the Iranian government’s brutal crackdown on protests. Over 500 protesters were killed by security forces, many were deliberately blinded by gunfire, tens of thousands were arrested and tortured, and several were executed. We stand in unwavering solidarity with those who continue to fight for human rights and justice, particularly with political prisoners who remain unjustly imprisoned. Jin, Jian, Azadi ☀️ Woman, Life, Freedom ——— Note: MEM is not the organizer of these rallies. Thank you to the Iranian activists and other community members for organizing! ❤️
