A note to girls who want a partner but don’t have one yet: Long ago in the year 2018, in my 4th year of single-mom life, I had resigned myself to the fact that I had been through a lot and that I, in fact, WAS a lot so I would probably be “alone”forever. And that was actually working out great for me. I rather enjoyed it. I loved myself and my time and my way. I was as stable as a person with my brain and history could be. I was happy. And all those things I was looking for as a young girl that I had written on paper in youth group had not really worked out for me anyway. But one day, this really handsome, young millennial guy who never wanted to be married or have children came my way so of course, I was interested. He was 29. I was 41. YIKES! (Could’ve sworn he was older.) We had different backgrounds and cultures. I had trauma. He didn’t. He was smart. I was just funny. He knew how to pronounce gnocchi. I thought I did but I didn’t. On paper this was FOR SURE a no-go, but as previously stated, paper hadn’t really worked out for me so…. Here’s what I’m saying: I’m really glad I didn’t put pen to paper on this one. I’m really glad I went with my heart and my gut and didn’t talk myself out of the greatest thing that’s ever happened to me. I’m glad I took a risk that is paying off in spades. And I’m especially glad that the best man I’ve ever known decided that a wife and a couple of teenagers was, in fact, for him after all. I KNEW IT, GIRLS!! I knew this was out there. I knew that being cherished and adored everyday wasn’t just a pipe dream. I knew I deserved this. And so do you. You deserve it, too. Don’t settle. If you are a gal wanting a partner, wait for one who thinks Valentine’s Day is the dumbest thing on living earth but writes you the sweetest cards and gives you flowers anyway (& your daughter, too). But most importantly, hold out for one who doesn’t need a “holiday” to make you feel like you’re the greatest gift he’s ever been given. This one’s a keeper. Until then, be the love of your own life. Nobody can love you better than you love yourself, so I’m learning. (But my guy is a very close second). 🩷
