In recent years, I’ve found myself hesitant to share spearfishing photos. The act of catching your own food seems to be stuck in a cloud of taboo that we can’t seem to shake off. While I can understand why someone who follows a vegan lifestyle might find this disturbing, I struggle to see why those who consume meat and fish would take offense at the practice of harvesting food. It’s perplexing that brands/companies are wary of associating themselves with it. To me, spearfishing represents one of the most genuine forms of conservation. It involves risking your life and entering the food chain to catch your next meal, all while minimizing your impact on nature. Let’s stop fearing those practices. Instead, let’s embrace, celebrate, and honor it. It is the ultimate good sacrifice after all. What’s the worse you ever heard someone tell you about getting your own food?
