I hadn’t seen a film that showed teens the way I’ve gotten to know them through my kids. They are by and large a thoughtful, existentially confused, sad but silly and hopeful bunch. Not petulantly slamming doors or obsessed with romantic indiscretion as some Young Adult shows would have us believe, but more in search of that deeper, mostly platonic connection to each other and the world. I wrote THEIR TOWN with this intention. And under @katieaselton’s direction it became something bigger. And much of that is due to @chosenjacobs and our daughter @itsoraduplass in the lead roles. They are, frankly, the heart of the film. And they are unreal. Honored to premiere at @sxsw this March. More soon!

I can look back at any year in pics and say “god, that was a great year…” we don’t take pictures of the tough stuff. was 2016 THE year? I don’t know. as much as any I guess? but it’s fun to look back… if I were to sum it up, there was a lot of work (remember that?), a lot of fun (I remember that a little), so many ig filters (kinda miss those), and amazing friends (who are still very prominent in my life, so that’s cool), and hope (that one breaks my heart a little). 2016, i’m not mad at you. i’d do you all over again. but I would probably phonebank a little more.

so ridiculously excited to share that my latest feature THEIR TOWN will have its world premiere at @sxsw in march! this one is real close to my heart… @markduplass wrote a beautiful script, @itsoraduplass stars in it (and I say as a director-not her mom-she is extraordinary), my sister @maryabudd produced the heck out of it, my other sister @craimy17 worked tirelessly behind the scenes as production coordinator to make every day move smoothly… if you look close you’ll even see my parents, my brother and my brother in law on screen… never mind the people below who are now my extended family that helped bring it all to life. all-stars i’ve worked with before… what’s up @sarahmakesmovies, @june_zandona, @stephaniekaznocha, my amazing music team @maggiephillps, @zachary_dawes and @tyler_parkford… and @daveeddiggs and @jefferyself!!! and all of the ones i worked with for the first time, I can say confidently, it will not be the last. so much of all our hearts in this movie… my gratitude runneth over.
