Inspired by one of our children this song was an attempt to explain and express thanks for the enormous learning that has come with being his parent. He has additional needs and has faced a lot of different challenges …..physical, intellectual and emotional …. on his journey to adulthood. I don’t mean to imply in ANY way that he is broken or that broken necessarily means beautiful…..what I wanted to say , to folks who haven’t had the privilege of having our son as part of their family, is that DIFFERENT does not mean worse….. that facing and navigating challenges ( although sometimes very difficult) earns resilience and deepens real empathy. “Disappointment is not a stranger and pain is not a shroud”. The most Beautiful people ( to me) have an understanding and awareness of others and of how life is not the same for all of us, that a “broken” experience can be much more valuable than a “perfect“ one. ❤️
