Getting to support & uplift the vital, transformative work that @careorg does all around the world remains my highest honor. Last night, I was so happy to gather with a room full of like-hearted humans to celebrate their ongoing programs & to dream & to plan for the new chapter we find ourselves in. It was humbling to be recognized for the team’s efforts to create the podcast She Leads with CARE, which debuted in the spring & is available wherever you listen. On that, we got to talk with women around the globe who have transformed their lives & their communities by working with CARE. What a NIGHT celebrating the opening of KYOTO at @lctheater ! 🔥🎭🎉 The production is masterful on every level (including a deeeeelightful performance by my beloved Kate Burton🥰). But as I was watching the farce unfold, I was continually reminded that this is a TRUE STORY. I can’t even. I’m still crying. What a SHOW, but also what a PRODUCTION. The beauty & the pain just wreck me. (And bravo to @lctheater for programming a season (combining this & Kyoto) that really holds a mirror up to us all.) Ragtime just extended into next summer- this is one to build a trip around if you can. And if not, the cast album will come out this winter, so we can all steep ourselves in it & listen & learn. In my conversation with Carisa Erickson (@officialcarisaerickson), she shared the heartbreak of caring for both of her parents through #OvertHepaticEncephalopathy (OHE). She described how painful it was to watch them decline and how deeply the stigma around liver disease affected their willingness to share their struggles.
