In the past 10 years, I have been blessed with the opportunity to travel across the world and research, learn, share and be a part of so many historic moments as a result of @rastaasoulsjourney. Initially, we went to 8 countries to uncover the roots and evolution of RasTafari, this spiritual movement that I grew up seeing and being a part of, without fully overstanding the role that both my grandparents played in spreading the message across the corners of the Earth, which was embraced by so many Nations and Souls in distress, seeking for a deeper truth than what Babylon forced us to believe about ourselves and each other. Iβve met some amazing humans, and ultimately became a vessel to transmit messages beyond this physical plane to empower Right over Might, and forge new models of co-existence for a collective humanity. Last week this time, myself, @directedbykells @we.want.ev @fabcevolution, and other volunteers and collective members of @wehavetherighttoberight with the support of hands and hearts from all over the world, were able to personally distribute over 400 lbs of aid to survivors of Hurricane Dorian in the Bahamasπ§πΈ. We visited only 5 shelters of many, guarded by the National security forces, where we saw almost 2500 evacuees, 90% of whom are Haitian brothers and sisters who have lost everything they called home in a foreign country. This sentence barely scratches the surface of this undocumented reality.
Our assessment of the efforts on the ground by those who can is highly disappointing. The local response simply isnt good enough, and more than often biased. It is an overwhelming situation for anyone to face, especially for those who have become refugees within these moments, and find themselves at the mercy of a system that doesnt recognize them as nationals, rather second class citizens at best. In moments of great disaster and distress, what is the protocol? Does it empower greater sentiments of nationality, or does it submit to the urgent call for humanity to prevail? … A reminder that we must become something for which our education and environment has ill-prepared us.

Island Life is a beautiful existence. Fresh fruits and vegetables, sunshine and ocean breeze. An escape from the stresses and undue pressure of life in North America and Europe. For islanders, this life is almost certain to be interrupted every Hurricane season by looming danger, tragedy and disaster.
Right now, Hurricane Dorian has destroyed 50% of all infrastructure on Grand Bahama and totally decimated all the shanty towns and houses on the entire island of Abaco, where many poor Bahamians and undocumented Haitians lived.
As you read this, there are families that have no shelter tonight, children who have lost parents, undocumented refugees who have not received aid and have had to bury bodies of their community members in large unmarked graves… their names will never make the official body count. It is an overwhelming situation for any Nation, especially challenging when the victims are the least socio-economic means. 70,000 humans have been affected. They need help, and there is more we can do if we act together.
On Sep 11-15 @directedbykells @we.want.ev and I will be travelling to the Bahamas to physically be present to help support, observe, document and share information for everyone who is interested in helping. Also, to make sure the aid is getting to the people without discrimination. Working together with local organizations, we hope to to create some sustainable programming for the children who have been most affected. We have created a Go Fund Me to raise funds to support the initiative.

We preserve culture when we remember and honour the ones who paved the way for us. The gentle ones, the rebellious ones, the ones who use Love defiantly, the Divine ones that manifest as Human. Today is a RasTafari Holyday, the Earthday of H.I.M Emperor Haile Selassie I. We honour this Spirit that has travelled across boundaries of time, space and ignorance to remind us that βEducation without character is a tragedy…We must become larger in outlook.
