In this time outside of time, I suppose it’s comforting to look back when the future is yet unclear. Not all nesting dolls are equal. Happy Dance because we reached our forever home. Cc: @dipikablacklist #Mumbai Palm Beach to Mumbai has been a hellava trip, but there’s no place like home. Kudos to @mumbaiairportgvk and #PranaamGVKServices for making our landing a smooth experience. Special mention to @emirates for taking such good care of us on the inaugural Miami- Dubai flight. Finally, home. There is no place like home. Posted @withregram • @brycesmom.310 Today’s character spotlight: Kalyani Chuyia, an 8 year old widow befriends Kalyani when she is sent to an ashram. Kalyani is a beautiful, young widow forced into prostitution by the head of the ashram. She is the only one allowed to keep her hair long, only so she can be pimped out to wealthy clients. Through Chuyia, Kalyani meets a law student who soon falls in love with her. Kalyani is desperately seeking a lover who will respect her. She sees herself as a lotus untouched by the filthy water it grows in and dares to imagine a better future. “Padma patram evam bhasa.” Water is one of the best movies I have ever seen. It deals with the unfair treatment of widows in India and the transparency of ashrams. What terrible damage can be done to the human spirit when chauvinistic religious rules are treated as sacrosanct. #DeepaMehta has done all women an immense service by making this film exposing the unfair, harsh treatment of widows and about the liberation their sisters yearn for with their hearts, minds, bodies and souls. @lisaraniray #LisaRay #LisaRaniRay #Kalyani #WaterMovie #Water #DeepaMehta #Trilogy #Widows #Ashrams #India #Film #MustWatchMovies We are so happy to be home. #Mumbai An oldie, but goodie Posted @withregram • @photographybyrishitaneja @lisaraniray for @bazaarindia Posted @withregram • @aninditaghose Fabulous coverage of the Indian women’s hockey win in @indianexpress today. Page 1 headline (not here, see their epaper) was simply the names of the 16 women who scripted Indian women’s hockey history! “Some criticised for not doing chores, others moulded by the heat of farms. Living up to a brother who represented the nation, rejoicing a sister who bought a stick with daily wages. Playing hockey to escape an alcoholic father and to vindicate a father who fought societal norms.” #indianwomenshockeyteam @indian_womens_hockey #womenshockey #indiansportswomen Good Morning from @fspalmbeach The passing of renowned photojournalist Danish Siddiqui has hit me as if he were a personal friend. As many others, I have been following as he chronicled our broken world while illuminating the human story gleaming in its cracks. Here’s a small collection of some of the recent critical moments in India that he has immortalised. Danish was the chief of Reuters in India and he was killed covering clashes in Afghanistan. In response to a tweet praising his courage, he once wrote: I don’t think there’s anything heroic about it. As journalists this is what we signed up for. It’s our DUTY to document what is happening around us.’ ❤️🙏🏼 My hero, my friend. Kathy’s pioneering, life changing work is one of the reasons I am here today. Deep bows. Posted @withregram • @kathy.giusti I am one of the fortunate ones. If we are going to solve the cancer crisis, not just on an individual basis, but on a global scale, we need to treat it with the same urgency and resolve we treated Covid-19. I discuss this in my latest piece with @FoxNews. Click the link in my bio to read more. • @kanikachaddagupta One of India’s first supermodels. Actor. Cancer survivor. Mother of twins through surrogacy. Woman of no fixed address. 🌏 This week, I am honored to interview cross cultural phenomenon Lisa Ray. 🌸 Raised in Canada by an Indian father and Polish mother 👩🏼❤️💋👨🏾, Ray was discovered while on vacation in India and went on to become a successful model and award-winning actress who starred in Canada’s Oscar nominated film, Water, amongst other prestigious credits. Named one of the ‘Ten most beautiful Indian women of the millenium’ by a Times of India poll, Ray cemented her profile as an iconic figure in India before leaving for drama school in London and opportunities around the world. 🎭 In 2009, Ray attended the Toronto International Film Festival in support of her work in two films. That day she announced her battle with multiple myeloma with the public. In order to cope, she wrote in her blog, “The Yellow Diaries.” 📝 Her forthrightness and humour in navigating a difficult illness earned her ‘The Voice Achievers Award’ and ‘The Hope Award’. Ray went on to help raise funds for the first research chair for Multiple Myeloma at Princess Margaret Hospital in Toronto. Ray’s philanthropic efforts support SickKids Hospital and serving as an Ambassador of Plan Canada’s ‘Because I Am A Girl’ campaign, a global movement that supports the rights of girls around the world. Lisa’s most recent release is her memoir, Close to The Bone. 🖋️ “An unflinching, deeply moving account of her nomadic existence: her entry into the Indian entertainment industry at sixteen; her relationship with her Bengali father and Polish mother; life on the movie sets and her brush with the Oscars; her battle with eating disorders; being diagnosed with multiple myeloma at thirty-seven; her spiritual quest; lovers and traitors, mentors and dream-makers; and the heartaches and triumphs along the way.” 📖 Lisa and her husband Jason Dehni have two lovely daughters, Sufi and Soleil. Lisa, I love our serendipitous connection (#twinmoms!, big hugs to you @brindabhatt) and thank you for sharing your story. 🙏🏼💕 🎧 LISTEN TO THE PODCAST 🎧 www.thatstotalmomsense.com Salvation will not come from the rushing centres of civilization; deliverance will come from the lonely places. Rest in Power Danish. Your humanity and legacy lives on Posted @withregram • @ronnysen One of the iconic images by Danish Siddiqui, inspired by which my very good friend @sam_kulavoor made this stencil. This is painted on hundreds of walls in Calcutta. And this is just one image of his, there are so many iconic photographs of Danish that everyone has seen in the last couple of years. He was one of our best and you get one such amazingly talented photojournalist maybe in a generation. What a loss! @readinglife0602 Hey guys !! I started reading this book for a reason and this post is not just a review or a summary but something so close to my heart. The reason for choosing this book was bec my mother was diagnosed with multiple myeloma and from that day, I have been continuously interacting with the people who have experienced this.. that’s how I got Lisa Ray. Though the book deals with cancer only with a few chapters, it could hold me with its beauty of words and contents . Be it dealing with the societal norms or the impact of her mother’s accident on her life ,or the way she was avoiding the msgs her body was sending . From the introvert child trying to escape from the world to the cancer graduate ,from the complicated love and heartbreaks to finding the true love ,I was hooked up with the book as if she was holding my hand and taking me through various chapters of her life .Everything was so beautifully written..She is an incredible author . There were sentences which kind of stopped me and made me reread them, making me say wow with the amazing choice of words and the comparison she does with various things of life . So original and so beautiful !! As I flipped through the pages ,I was really worried and had some sort of terror in me specially at those pages where she speaks more about multiple myeloma.. Some pages made my heart skip a beat bec I have felt all that with my mom..I shared every detail of this book with my mom to give her more strength and to show her, how Lisa fought the disease and now living a happy life . With this book I came to know how impt it is to educate her about cancer and how to give her more strength. And I truly felt my mother has become more confident now, accepting herself gracefully . And we will overcome this for sure !! I really didn’t want this book to end .. Lisa should continue writing bec I know she will have a lot more to say on her journey .. Giving you more strength. We are proud of you for being the fighter and for your continued efforts in raising awareness for Multiple myeloma.. Keep inspiring !! Indeed a must read !! Added to my fav list .. #lisaraniray #bookstagram #closetothebone #beatcancer Posted @withregram • @vajra_wisdom Those who do not pursue praise and gain, those who do not shun criticism and loss, may be stigmatized as abnormal or even insane. When observed from an ordinary point of view, enlightened beings may seem insane because they don’t negotiate, they cannot be lured or swayed by material gain, they don’t get bored, they don’t look for thrills, they have no face to lose, they do not conform to rules of etiquette, they never employ hypocrisy for personal gain, they never do things to impress people, and they don’t display their talents and powers just for the sake of it. But if it benefits others, these saints will do anything necessary, from having perfect table manners to leading a Fortune 500 company. In 2,500 years of Buddhist history there have probably been countless enlightened beings who were never identified or who were banished for being insane. – Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche Posted @withregram • @lovebooksandchai How beautiful is this stack sitting in the summer sun on a sand pit in my little backyard.
