Let me know how Albania was, I slept through it 😴😂 . Me on the daily in Albania after leading three tours and working through Portugal 🇵🇹 . Poland 🇵🇱. Georgia 🇬🇪. Slovenia 🇸🇮. For two months… . Been taking some time off to rest up, reflect, relax, and try to be present enough to make sure my next adventure isn’t a total blur 🫠. . How was your summer? . I count myself as one of the luckiest people I know. Yes, I got to spend my summer traveling and enjoying new experiences, but EVEN BETTER?? . I spent time with some of you – my smart, delightful, kind, generous, adventurous readers! . Oh the fun we had! . ⛵️From sailing across the Baltic Bay in Poland to . 💃🏻Wearing matching Georgian socks at our impromptu dance party in the mountains, . 🏰to dining in a castle overlooking Ljubljana, Slovenia… . Is this real life??? . . But travel can also be tough. . After three back to back tours and some time in Albania I tried to get some rest in Montenegro/Croatia/Austria before coming home. . What happened? . 🤮I got food poisoning in Montenegro that knocked me out for 3 days (get yourself a BFF who takes care of you in the grossest of times like @rachelleahcohen ). .  🫠 Barely made it outside during a really tough heat wave in Europe. . 🏃🏻♀️ Ran around like an Amazing Race contestant in Vienna inspecting hotels, restaurants, walking routes, and meeting with vendors for my upcoming 2023 Christmas Market tour (more on that soon). . . Then I got home after 2 1/2 months only to have hubs book a job and leave for Canada for two weeks . So I did what any exhausted, sane person would do… I got on a plane and followed him lol. . 🇨🇦 Canada started out lovely and then I developed a severe illness. Abroad. Again. . After a couple days of agony I got back to the US and saw three different doctors. Without going into boring details they thought it was either a bladder infection, kidney stones, a burst ovarian cyst, or appendicitis. . Even though I did ultrasounds, blood tests, and a CT scan nothing was conclusive. . This past Wednesday marks the first day I could get out of bed or even look at my phone. . I’m sharing all of this because hey, I’ve missed being here and interacting with you all. Life constantly throws unexpected situations at you. . I’m ready to get back to work and bring you more juicy travel hacks and the best cultural immersion tours you’ll ever take. . So thanks for your patience in my time of silence. . Let’s catch up. Do you try to learn any foreign words when you travel? . For me it’s usually a minimum of “hello, goodbye, please, and thank you.” . From there I add 1, 2, 3, and if I’m feeling super fresh “where is the bathroom?” Or “do you speak English?” . But my brain goes into shutdown after multiple countries (I did 8 countries in a row) and then I start getting tongue tied with my native tongue. . This is when it helps to have the best travel buddy ever @rachelleahcohen who goes along my re-naming of currency while in Albania. It felt like we had our own secret language because for sure no one knew what the hell we were talking about 😆. . How much of a new language do you learn when you travel?

What we do when we travel matters. . My guests and guide and I all wore our Ukrainian nightingale pins to dinner in Batumi, Georgia 🇬🇪. I noticed two women at the next table that frequently looked at our table, but I assumed it was because we broke into song ha! . As they got up to leave, one of the women approached our table and spoke to Natia (our guide). . She said she saw our pins. She and her daughter were from Kharkiv, Ukraine. She saw our pins and the support meant everything to them. Then she gave us the flowers she had brought for herself. . Batumi is a diverse town filled with so many different nationalities from Georgian to Belarusian to Ukrainian to Russian. . And some might say a gesture as small as a pin doesn’t really do anything, or it’s performative, or not enough. . But in that moment, on that night, in that garden, 8 women speaking English, French, and Georgian meant everything to 2 women speaking Ukrainian. The languages didn’t matter, or that most of us couldn’t even understand each other. It was the subtle statement of a single pin that said that you are not alone in this world. .
