So many people’s favorite castle in Scotland is Eilean Donan Castle….and there are plenty of people who literally photograph this castle for a living. One of the times I have been here I was lucky enough to catch it just after a story during one of those amazing moments where there is both clouds and LIGHT. For me…I thought it looked like magic.💚🏰 #scotland #scottishhighlands #scotlandphotography #jamesbond #highlander
Sometimes I make a wish when I go through medieval doorways. This is definitely a wish worthy portal. #glastonbury #churcharchitecture #doorway
The Dark Hedges in Norther Ireland. I’m going to be honest with you…if you come here and take the VERY instgramable photo you may be shocked when you get here. You HAVE to have a zoom lens to get this street to look like this. And you have to get there early early early. Otherwise you are going to have dozens of people in your shot. But if everything works out just right…you may just get magic.
Norman Arches make me swoon. #normanconquest #england #churcharchitecture
When the sun shines on a gloriously beautiful castle ruin everything seems brighter! If it wasn’t for one of the owners of this castle, I’d argue we wouldn’t have the Tudor dynasty. With the help of Sir Rhys ap Thomas Henry VII was able to win the Battle of Bosworth. #tudors #castle #wales
Rievaulx Abbey is one of the ruins that absolutely takes my breath away. Abbey ruins do something to my imagination that I can’t explain…When I see these skeletal remains that nature is reclaiming so long after the people that walked its halls have gone…I wonder. #abbeyruins #historicarchitecture #englishcountryside #churcharchitecture #medieval
If you’re wondering why a good many of the castles are a ruin in England- his name is Oliver Cromwell. Goodrich Castle experienced a specifically hard siege- one that the Parliamentary Army won eventually with the use of a mortar that fired hollow iron balls filled with gunpowder! #castle #medieval #englishcivilwar #olivercromwell #medievalarchitecture
It’s amazing where life will take you. There have been seasons of my life that I thought that everything was horrible and that sadness was unbearable…Waiting through that sadness seems impossible- and while my imagination was able to conjure all sorts of negative outcomes for the future, I had an impossibly difficult time of imagining positive outcomes. My sadness didn’t know that I’m just a short amount of time waterfalls, castles, and a million stories would be just around the bend. If you’re having a hard time – I want you to know you are loved. And that this life is so so so worth living. 💚🙏🏻 #scotland #briksofaberfeldy #landscapephotography #naturephotography
When you catch the light at a truly special moment. Se the wee rainbow in the corner? Destiny is all! 🏰🌈💚
After Mary Queen of Scots married her third husband, Lord Bothwell, the tides quickly turned against her. 26 of her nobles banded together and raised an army. Mary Queen of Scots was imprisoned and eventually was forced to abdicated the throne of Scotland- her one year old son became king and her half brother became Regent. Mary fled to England. A Civil War broke out in Scotland with one side in support of the queen and the other were those who were ruling in the stead of Mary’s infant son. This conflict would be called the Marian Civil War and Blackness Castle would start by being loyal to Mary and would go back and forth several times. #maryqueenofscots #scotland #castle #scotlandphotography #fortress #scottishhistory
I would definitely think twice about trying to attack a castle if the owner’s name was Archibald the Grim of the Black Douglases. Threave Castle was built in 1370…. it was even controlled for a time by Princess Margaret, Robert the Bruce’s eldest daughter. #scotland #castle #medievalhistory
It’s amazing to me how many different interpretations there are of Margaret Beaufort’s character. TV Dramas have also done absolutely nothing to help perpetuate the myth of Henry VIII’s grandmother. There are a few women I would love to time travel to meet and have tea with them. And she is one of them. This is Pembroke Castle where Margaret Beaufort at the tender age of 13 gave birth to Henry VII who would start the Tudor Dynasty. #castle #waroftheroses #tudors #henryvii #medieval #fortress
Dunluce Castle in Northern Ireland is sooooooo swoon my. You might recognize it as House Greyjoy’s Castle Pike…get ready to be spammed with this castle. I love it SO MUCH! #got #gameofthrones #castle #northernireland
Beautiful Berkeley Castle…so so lovely to look at and yet so many difficult and horrible things happened here. That’s the way with castles. This castle was hit by canon fire during the English Civil war and to this day the damage has never been repaired. It was a condition that when the Berkeley family were allowed to have the castle back that they could never repair the damage to the Keep and outer Bailey. #castle #history #medievalarchitecture
Conwy Castle is a castle’s castle. I can only imagine what it felt like for the people when Edward I conquered Wales and built this huge structure and the walls around the city to control, suppress, and govern them. #wales #conwy #castle
This amazing staircase in Rouen Cathedral is known as the Book Sellers Staircase. It was built in 1480. The stairs used to lead to the Cathedral library which was situated just above the Flamboyant Gothic arched door. In 1788 another story was built above the library to hold the Cathedral records and the upper flights of stairs were added then. In 1562, during the start of the Wars of Religion, the library was ransacked. Many of the Cathedal’s tombs, stained glass, and monuments were damaged.
NEW EPISODE!! Mary Queen of Scots story has always fascinated me. Linlithgow Palace was where Mary was born. So so much was happening all around her from the moment she came in to this world. Head to the place where long videos live, YOU know the place. It has a play button as it’s logo. You’ll find it there. 😉😉 #maryqueenofscots #marystuart #reign #scotland #linlithgow
St Michael’s Mount. A place of importance since the 700s bringing people for pilgrimages by the thousands. People still come by the thousand….perhaps for very different reasons than they did centuries ago. #driftmark #houseofthedragon #stmichaelsmount
The Sculpture in the crypt of Windsor Cathedral hits me in the feels. #churcharchitecture #winchester #crypt
Mmmmmm old doors. 🚪 🤤 if we walk through where will we end up?! #medieval #medievalarchitecture #door
What an amazing place Canterbury is. You can feel the centuries of people who have come here. Canterbury Cathedral was once the most important pilgrimage site for Europeans next to Rome. #cantebruy #cathedral #churcharchitecture
I asked my Husband Chris one day: if you could only go to castles for the rest of your life or only go to Cathedrals and Abbeys- which would you choose? My answer: cathedrals and abbeys. What’s yours? 🤔 🏰 ⛪️
Waterfalls. 🤩🤩🤩🤩 The Hermitage is one of our favorite places to go. Endlessly spectacular. #waterfall #scotland #landscapephotography #naturephotography
