My friend Andy popped in while passing through. He lives a long way away so we don’t see much of each other. It’s weird to think we first met at school 36 years ago – how in earth did THAT HAPPEN??!! It was nice to catch up. 2. Mr F and I went for a long dog walk which culminated in an unplanned glass or two of rosé and dinner outside in the sunshine. I’m glad we did it as it feels like we caught the last bit of summer. 3. I chatted to my son Fin on the phone for two and a half hours. It’s been a bumpy few years while he’s been away at uni (any parents of kids who started during Covid know what I mean). We caught up on all sorts of things – films, telly, books, psychology, theology… I think we covered it all! This was a snap I sent him mid chat to show him my view of Teddy. 4. We went to Notting Hill Carnival today! Growing up in Trinidad means it’s always pretty special. We got there early, I had my curry and roti, we chipped along behind a few bands then we headed home before it got even busier. It was Amy’s first time – I was around her age when I last went to Carnival in Trinidad, which is a strange thought! This week seems to be a reminder about all the changes that have happened in my past and present… an unexpected reflection. #4things 4 things I did this week to fill my cup that had nothing to do with work: 1. Technically this was a work type event, but it didn’t feel like it because it was such fun. I was interviewed by the very impressive @jo_elvin for her podcast ‘Fame’ as part of The London Podcast Festival. To be asked to be a guest on a podcast that that featured the likes of @jameelajamil and @amyschumer was an honour! 2. Afterwords Mr F and I had an unplanned date night in a nearby restaurant, which was very nice. 3. I took @teddymcfeen for a long walk today before it got too hot to move. I listened to @steven Bartlett’s Diary of a CEO podcast interview with @amycuddy as I walked. Such an impressive woman, and someone I’d definitely like to talk to myself one day. 4. We met up with our dear friends @nickede and @mrdrewnaylor for a long lunch today. We didn’t take any photos because we were too busy chatting, but here is one of us on our way home over my favourite bridge – Albert Bridge. There’s something so romantic about this bridge, I’ve always loved it. A lovely end to a very hot week! #4things 4 Things I did this week to fill my cup that had nothing to do with work: 1. Had a great catch up with @simonalexandero and @iamlauriewang in London. I loved the neon sign – and as someone who has recently moved back to the Big Smoke, it certainly felt apt! 2. Mum and I went out to lunch while Nick and Dad went to watch grown men chase little white balls around at Wentworth. It’s become a bit of an annual traction now for us all, and it’s lovely to have the excuse to go out, just the two of us. 3. Got up early on Saturday morning and took @teddymcfeen for a dog walk with Nick and @james_stew and little Milo. 4. We headed up to Leeds to support Nik and Eva @thespeakmans and their wonderful charity @traumaresearchuk helping people recover from the symptoms of trauma, panic, PTSD and anxiety. My gorgeous dress was #gifted to me by Leeds designer Rebecca Rhoades @rhoadesfashion I felt very glam – loved it! A very sociable week – what have you been up to? #4things 4 things I did this week to fill my cup that had nothing to do with work: 1. I actually have lots of photos this week, which is very unlike me! 😁 1. I went to the first anniversary celebration of @tessysbrunches hosted by the magnificent @tessyojo Her drive and commitment to help women feel good is something we are 100 per cent aligned on!😊 Thank you @palassociates for the brilliant reportage photos. 2. Played tennis with Mr F. It was sunny. He won. You can’t have everything… 🎾 3. @emmaguns popped round for coffee which is always a highlight of any week. Our chats are long, detailed, uplifting, hilarious and slightly scurrilous… my favourite kind. 😁 Plus, she rates my poached eggs, so she’s a keeper. 4. Mr F and I went to my friend @petecohen_ Magnificent Health Summit and listened to some wonderful speakers talk about their learnings in the healthy mind and body space. @lucywyndhamread discussed her fitness journey from always being picked last for games in PE at school, to joining the army, to uploading a few fitness videos to YouTube back in the 90s – which led to a thriving fitness business and over 100 million views! @dr_bob_rakowski shared his experience and learnings in how the brain and body work, which was fascinating. I got a copy of this brilliant book by Carl Benton which is part cookbook, part mindset feeder (a brilliant idea) with all profits going to Stroud Women’s Refuge. (You can pick one up at www.inspiredcookbook.co.uk ) We also popped out for our lunch break to Spitalfields Market – yum. The last picture was taken a split second before I fumbled and dropped my dessert on the floor. 🤦🏻♀️ 3 second rule meant I still finished it. 😋 A lovely last week of August. #4things 4 things I did last week to fill my cup that had nothing to do with work. My first one of the new ‘term’ is with the wonderful Natalie Costa ( @powerthoughtsnc ) who has everything you need to help you get back into your work/school groove. Click the YouTube link in my bio 👆 Tonight we went ‘out out’ to the special screening in Leicester Square of Kenneth Branagh’s new film #ahauntinginvenice No plot spoilers but it was jumpy!! 😳 #murdermystery #whodunnit @20thcenturyuk @concordemedialondon Oh my goodness, this week’s conversation is a SCORCHER! Toxic Productivity is probably a term you’ve heard of but thought it’s a fancy pants name for someone who is grumpy and busy. I know I did. It’s not. It’s the term used to describe someone who is permanently busy, even when they have run out of energy, motivation and strength but keep limping on because they don’t know any other way to be. 🙋🏻♀️ That’s me. I have crashed and burned over and over, and still didn’t learn. I even wrote a Sunday Times best-selling book about it, and guess what? I forgot my own life lessons, didn’t take my own advice, and blooming well did it again! That’s why this week’s Midlife Conversation is so good, because it’s a reminder that all of us are fighting our way, like salmon swimming upstream, against a tide of social conditioning and social media content that constantly tells us we have to ‘slay’, we have to push through, and keep going, and quitting is for losers. In this week’s powerful conversation, Heather Agan de Visser and I discuss: 🤔 How the whole structure on while our working life is based comes from a 100 year old premise which is no longer relevant. 😬 Why we feel guilty for not being busy – and how we can change our mindset around that. 🤯 How our need to please and prove our worth works brilliantly for others, but not for us – and what to do about that. 😨 How fear of losing control stops us from letting go. 😳 How we end up making everything about us and how we appear, rather than who we are. If you’ve only just realised you’ve become a human doing rather than a human being, you need to watch this conversation! To make sure you don’t miss out, click the subscribe button on my YouTube page and you’ll be notified every time I have a new conversation – and this is one you have to see! Click the YouTube link in my bio ☝️or head to https://www.youtube.com/@AndreaMcLeanThisgirlisonfire 👉 If you’d like to join the conversation, just click the link to join my private, women only Facebook group, where you can discuss all of the midlife conversations in confidence. https://www.facebook.com/groups/766812441537576/ I can’t wait for you to see it! You’ve almost made it through your first week back! 🥳 This week’s #midlifeconversations is for anyone struggling with adapting to going back to work / getting the kids back to school post summer holidays. My conversation with Coach Natalie Costa @powerthoughtsnc will make you breathe a sigh of relief… you aren’t alone in feeling like you’re doing a terrible job at it! Filled with helpful hacks to get everyone in the house back into the groove, it is a MUST SEE episode! Click the link in my bio to watch in full on YouTube 📹 #ad What makes me feel good? It’s something I get asked about all the time, and the honest answer is, it’s not just one thing… I wish it was! Feeling good is about every micro step we take and decision we make; from the amount of sleep we get, to how often we move our bodies, and what we put in it. 🙋🏻♀️ But what if there was something that would help you take massive strides rather than micro steps towards feeling great? That would help you feel like your old self again? 🙌 There is! Arella Pause is a menopause supplement that is packed full of ingredients to help you feel good. It has: 🥰 Wild Yam extract to help regulate your hormones 💃🏻 Siberian Ginseng extract to help boost your energy levels 😴 Passion Flower extract to help with insomnia and anxiety 💪 Vitamin D3 to help with bone density 🤓 Vitamin E to help with brain function Taken daily as part of your daily routine, this little sachet can easily become one of your little micro steps towards feeling great.
