First race at ‘The Green Hell’. Walking away with a class win, a surprisingly heavy bag of meat, and very wide eyes! Getting your Permit for the infamous Nordschleife circuit isn’t a simple one, for good reason. You need to take a series of theory and practical courses, before accumulating 18 race laps in the lower powered classes, like the one I raced here, snappily named VF2-FWD. There are an absolute litany of classes here (see my meme), but ours is basically a stripped-out road car with slicks. This means it’s actually harder to drive than a full blown GT3 racer, lift-off oversteer is real. 😅 I was lucky to be with people who know what they’re doing, @walkenhorstmotorsport, and my teammates @baileyvoisin and @manuel_maldonado33. I did the first half of our 4hr race, and my gosh the things I saw… 😂 As well as epic slipstream battles on the 2.5km Döttinger straight, I drove with my eyes in the mirror as faster cars sailed past at impossible speeds for my poor little Hyundai, drove past flatbed trucks on their way to recover cars that had crashed somewhere on this mammoth 21km ‘track’ and scared myself silly a few times when the already-close barriers starting inching closer… I somehow (genuinely, no idea how) got us from P4 in class to the lead at the halfway mark. My teammates finished it off to take a win on my first attempt at the Nordschleife! I should really walk away now with the 100% record 😂 I’ll be back next year to get my remaining laps, for now though attention goes back to our regular schedule with Petit Le Mans next week…

I did a painful thing, and I’ve been trying to think of a caption that isn’t a humble-brag, and it’s difficult… I climbed Mont Ventoux from all 3 sides by bike in one ride, and I’m quite proud of it. 📊 Numbers 📊 Mt. Ventoux summits at just under 2,000m. On the long descents I hit a max speed of 80km/h. I spent 5.5 hours climbing, the rest of the time was descending and transition miles. Total calorie burn was 4,453. To offset this I consumed over half a kilo of sugar and 4.7 litres of water. All in all, I rode for just over 7 hours with less than an hour of stop time. I’d spent a while planning this ride, and that’s definitely half the fun, but actually following through and dealing with the suffering to finish it was a big achievement for me. I came close to quitting at the 2nd summit, as I was feeling low physically and mentally. The effort up to then, plus the heat on the lower slopes contrasted with the freezing mist and winds at the summit, was taking a toll. I also knew if I did the freezing half-hour descent through the clouds to the final climb, from Sault, I would have no option other than to climb it to get home. Thankfully, that being the ‘easiest’ side of Ventoux and the mental push of it being the last one helped me to finish it off! Even better, the clouds had burnt off by the time I got back to the summit, so I was rewarded with the warm sun as I collapsed to take the *three* selfie. Definitely one of my less restful ‘holidays’ but I loved it. Thanks to @jimbobarooney_d and @maxaitken49 for the good vibes and bottle hand up, and @sramroad, @zippspeed, @sportful_uk and @viresvelo for the exceptional kit, run down below: Factor Ostro V.A.M. Sram Red AXS (48-35 and 10-33 gearing, needed a lower gear!) Zipp 454 NSW Wheels and Conti GP5000 S TR set up tubeless (🤤) Sportful Bomber Jersey (comfy aero 👌🏻) Sportful LTD Bibshorts Sportful Hot Pack Norain Jacket (perfect for the chilly descents)

*cue furious track limits commenters* 👋🏻🙂 Sadly I couldn’t give myself the birthday gift I wanted of a top result, we had half the package today with a P3 in qualifying, but fell back in the race and couldn’t really challenge in all honesty. Yesterday was even harder, a proper 50/50 call on the grid for wets or slicks and we got it wrong. Sometimes that’s how it goes, still had a blast battling away for solid points, oh and eating enough cake to remove some ballast from the Fezza. 🍰 📸 @michelescudiero
