It was so fun to play Monika in the #indiefilm “47”. There are over 400 animals at East Valley Shelter. We were able to help out 30 of them by cleaning cages, walking dogs, doing laundry & feedings. There were just a few of us last week. We would love as many hands on deck as possible. If you would like to volunteer with us please email [email protected] I hope to see you there. 💜 🐾 Our city shelters are grossly understaffed and overwhelmed. The constant intake of new animals dumped by their owners has put a huge burden on an already struggling system. We have been very vocal about the new GM and the problems facing @laanimalservices and we couldn’t sit by and watch dogs suffer any longer. We had to do something. So until things can be resolved and more staff is hired we committed to volunteering every Monday at East Valley Animal Shelter. If you have experience handling dogs we would love your help. Also, we encourage other rescue groups to spearhead this same initiative at the other shelters desperately in need. Especially those groups who have been as vocal as us. Hi guys! Over the years many of you have asked me how you can volunteer to help animals in LA. Well this is it! The LA City Animal Shelters are overwhelmed & we need all hands on deck. After inquiring to @stayceedains a month ago we finally received permission to volunteer at the 6 city pounds without having to be one of their “regular” volunteers. Our first day helping was last week and it sure was eye-opening. The shelters are severely understaffed yet overflowing with animals. Many on the staff really care, especially @xoloitzcuintli_mommy who welcomed us and was grateful to have our support. While cleaning cages and walking dogs won’t fix the problem at large it at least provides some relief to the staff and love to the animals. If you’re in LA and you love animals, please meet me tomorrow and let’s stand up for these innocent beings. The shelter system has reached an all-time crisis. There’s an overflowing amount of animals at our shelters. Animals living in their feces. There are dogs who haven’t been walked in weeks & even in 2 months! Who wouldn’t lose it confined to a small space? To then be incorrectly listed as a behavioral case taking away the possibility of being adopted. How about the dog who had trouble breathing only to be found dead days later even though volunteers spoke up but no medical attention was given. You can see dogs doubled up in kennels & more dogs in crates that are lined up along hallways. Dogs being put down because there just isn’t enough space. Volunteers being let go for speaking up because they want to do right by the dogs. Where is all the money going? @mayorofla & @laanimalservices we will not look the other way. GM @stayceedains what are you doing to improve things? And to the people who owner surrender their pet, the shelter is “not a safe re-homing facility.” So my people in LA who love animals I hope to see you guys tomorrow.
