Feeling 46.💃
I’ve never had a “word” for a particular year before, but this year, I have two:
Purpose…
And Justice.
“Purpose” – because this is the year that we are able to turn our unthinkable pain into immense purpose and make a difference in the lives of hurt children.
And “justice” because…
It’s just time. It’s actually past time.
In justice – and God – we trust.
I am so ready for this 46th year of mine and look forward to all of the good, healing, fun, love, purpose and JUSTICE it has in store for us.🩷
Thank you for all of the birthday wishes, shares and @lovingwayfoundation donations this week.
Y’all sure know how to make a girl feel loved and supported.🩵🩷

Today may be my birthday, but last Saturday, my dear Dallas girls celebrated me with the most love-filled evening at Green Point.🎂🩵🩷
We all attended and graduated from Episcopal School of Dallas and I looked up to every single one of these girls in high school (they were all 1 or 2 grades above me and just the COOLEST) – and I STILL look up to them today.
But I also have seen them stand next to me and WITH me through the impossible.
All mamas, our friendships were made even stronger when the unfathomable happened to my sweet baby.
They have never made me feel like the dark is too dark…
They have reminded me again and again of my light.
And they have helped carry me.
And when I come to Dallas – I feel like the pink carpet is being rolled out every single time.
They surround you in a big hug of love.
That’s just who they are.
As they brought out the 2 beautiful birthday cakes – including a Loving Way custom-designed cake – my theme song spontaneously came on…
Matthew Wilder’s “Break My Stride” (think 80s roller-skating date)…
And it made me cry!! (The moment was captured right in this first photo)
Here I was, surrounded so much LOVE – bathed in it – and on comes this magical song that has been such a heartbeat throughout my life.
Nothing is accidental to me.
The magical things…
The good things…
The terrible things…
There seems to be a purpose to it all right now…even when I struggle to understand it.
But something as simple as being surrounded by precious friends as my theme song plays while my birthday cakes are coming out?
To me, that’s a much bigger sign than even a birthday can hold.
Thank you, @hfergjewels @kateswaildesigns @nicoleseanorrusso @katieleefick & @lindsmathesjames for making my birthday so incredibly special and memorable.🩵🩷🩵🩷🎂🎂 Dallas, Texas

Happy Birthday to our @LovingWayFoundation loving & fearless founder, Dawn McCoy @iamdawnmccoy! 🎂🎂🎂
(Note that VERY special Loving Way-themed cake with our logo on it that her Dallas friends had specially made). 🩵🩷
Dawn is currently in Austin this week with her 4-year-old son, Waylon (also known as the namesake “Way” of our foundation name), where he is being treated in a therapy intensive for his extensive traumatic brain injury caused by child abuse.
Even in the throes of a rigorous therapy week, Dawn found time to host a “Friends of Loving Way – Austin” event last night, hosted by @lodgewell at the historic Stanley House in downtown Austin where she spread our message of child abuse prevention and support of our child abuse survivors and their families and caregivers.
From your Loving Way Advisory Board and your digital & social media team and all of our survivors and their families, we are wishing you the HAPPIEST of birthdays, Dawn!
And we hope you get back even half as much as you give this birthday!🎂🎂
Love,
Uncle Cheese 🧀 @heychrisrichards Austin, Texas

On Day 3 of our therapy intensive in Austin –
And as I told Waylon “I’m so proud of you,”
I just want to say how proud I am of – and for – all of you who showed up and shared and donated to @LovingWayFoundation on Giving Tuesday yesterday.🩵🩷
And I also wanted to let you know how grateful we are.
Grateful for…
All of those who made this oh-so-special week-long therapy intensive possible…
Friends in Austin who made introductions and made our stay here happen…
Those who showed up at our door with treats and comforts of home – so sweet it makes me want to cry…
Our board members who shine a light on Loving Way – and our mission – throughout their daily lives…
All of those who are attending our Friends of Loving Way – Austin Happy Hour tonight with @lodgewell…
And for all of our friends, family and cheerleaders out there who cheer Waylon and I – and our mission – on.
We choose to live in joy.
We do.
But we never forget what brought us here.
And we won’t stop fighting until child abuse is a bad memory for all victims and their families.

This is our 1st Giving Tuesday for @LovingWayFoundation – and we have only one request:
Please help support children like Waylon – and families like ours – whose lives have been irrevocably impacted by child abuse.
Just by donating what you can today, you will help sponsor a healing respite vacation for one of our families as well as a toy drive benefiting the foster families of @fosterlove and contribute to our child abuse prevention events and activations.
Please donate what you can.
ALL you can.
We’re a new nonprofit – and every single dollar helps us do all WE can to stop child abuse.
My greatest hope? That Loving Way’s efforts stop just one child abuser from leaving a situation instead of choosing to hurt a child.
The more visible we are…
The more potential abusers will see us…
And the more those who have been abused will reach out to us for support.
Thank you in advance.🩵🩷

I could show you a dozen pictures of our Thanksgiving in Dallas with our family and explain how special it was…
But my favorite photo will always be this one.
Waylon with his LaLa when we arrived at midnight the night before and he quickly melted into her arms as they listened to Taylor Swift’s “The 1” on repeat while I carried the luggage upstairs and unpacked.
She didn’t even mind the “S” word in the song.
That’s true love.🩵 Dallas, Texas

Thank you so much to our little pack of love and support who showed up to @monsieurmarcelfm to celebrate our little miracle boy’s 4th birthday –
Celebrating him with all things he loves:
French food.
Cake.
Music.
And, most importantly, his PEOPLE.❤️🇫🇷🎂
And, thank you especially @irik for capturing the magic of the evening in this sweet video.🫶

Happy 4th birthday, my beautiful boy!🎂
You continue to light up not only my life – but light up this world with your magic, love, joy, faith, passion and purpose!
I have never met a baby whose story has inspired so much thought and need for change…
Or a boy who inspires so much joy!!!!
People who don’t even know you feel a bond with you instantly because of your magnetic spirit…
And those who DO know you personally feel the need to fiercely love and protect you and your big, beautiful open heart and peaceful soul.
Whether it’s eating escargots soufflé and rolling your eyes in ecstasy…
Bathing in the pools and hot tubs of Palm Springs to help relieve your pain…
Taking turns at giggle fits with mama…
Moving your body by “dancing” on your back on the bed…
Or listening to a live accordion for the first time, touching the keys and SQUEALING with glee…
You just bring so much joy and mindfulness to all who know you – and to those who feel like they do.
You show people “the loving way” – because you ARE our Loving WAY.
As I told you when you were only 6 days old (see the last slide☺️):
“You did something so magical.
This is who you are.
You bring joy to people.
You bring people together.
And you bring love.
I love you.”
The greatest honor of my LIFE is being your mama, protector, cheerleader and voice.
And I will never stop advocating for you and being your voice when you need it the most.
And, together, we will help be the voice for so many.
Happy birthday, my magical little man!
*for those asking – in lieu of gifts, please contribute to @lovingwayfoundation to help Waylon and children like Waylon who are survivors of child abuse.
