Golly that one hurts. 2nd by just a couple of seconds in the Rolex Daytona 24. Nearly 24 hours of fighting for inches of tarmac, gathering energy for ‘one’ more push, willing your teammates on with all your heart, trying not to think about the end result whilst only thinking of how to get there. Coming that close means all the hope that crept up on you in the final stages gets crushed, and it stings. But we had a good race. Those who missed it, we were circulating in the top positions nearly all race long, and everyone in the team was flawless. Pipo and I pulled longer stints during the night hours as we tried to rest up Tom for the final sprint, let him sleep as we worked to keep the car healthy and near the front. It looked to work perfectly, as he pulled a beautiful move on the #7 Porsche with just over an hour to go for the lead. We thought that was the win right there. Sadly, a caution came out shortly after. We are the first pit box in pitlane, which means our rivals can watch us and ‘short’ their fuel stop to jump ahead of us. They then simply have to save a touch more fuel, and hold that position. This is exactly what happened, and we felt powerless watching on, despite Tom putting in a heroic effort to try and pass again. 2nd at Daytona is not to be sniffed at, and it bodes well for the year ahead. A huge thank you to Pipo, Tom, Whelen Engineering and Cadillac Racing for creating this awesome crew. And hats off to Porsche Penske and their drivers, it was a heck of a battle. #BeIconic #CadillacRacing @bcpix @alelbuth 📸

I proudly present to you the latest Aitken x Koop collab, courtesy of @stilo_official. The Thistle. 🌷 Inspiration came from the classic emblem of Scotland, the thistle, a prickly yet beautiful flower that blooms bright purple from the cold greens and greys of the British countryside. The little dashes of gold were thrown in to set off the muted greens and bright purples. On the back we have the motto of The Order of the Thistle (yes it’s a thing), which translates to “Nobody attacks me with impunity”, referring to our prickly nature. Let’s hope that rings true this season 😉 I’m glad to see it’s already been given the thumbs up by a few of you (swipe to the end)! #BeIconic #CadillacRacing Final pic 📸 @bcpix

As we roll into 2024 I’ll refrain from the cookie-cutter “Happy Xmas/NY” post, and thought I could drop a few untold stories from the last year: Coming in 1st (ba dum dum tss) was a trophy mishap following our victory in the Sebring 12 Hours. As you can see, the trophies are of the lovely plate variety, a nice change from cups but still troublesome for the journey home. Not wanting to scratch up my first IMSA winners trophy I put it into the backseat pocket in my rental car for safekeeping, and realised about halfway to my gate at Orlando Airport that it was still very safe in that pocket. Cue a frantic run back through security and the parking lot… The car had already gone to the wash bays but I got lucky. 🤦🏻♂️ Number 2 was more wholesome. David, a past teacher of mine with a love for cars and people, has been coming to races to watch me for a while now. At Nürburgring we had a Ferrari 296 to take some lucky guests and mechanics for laps, and while I enjoyed every one, I most enjoyed surprising David with one of these spots and delivering on a long-held promise to scare the living daylights out of him on a proper track, in a proper car. He was silent throughout, and stock still, until we got back to pitlane and he said some thankful words, with a few rude words in there for effect. Finally, I’m cheating as this was in my broadcast channel, but it’s good fun… At sign-on for Le Mans this year I noticed they had a bunch of spare stickers, including logos denoting car class. GTE, LMP2, Hybrid, Pro-Am… etc. I collected a few, knowing they could be handy. Who wouldn’t want a Hypercar class sticker on their rental car? Better yet, I had an “AM” (as in amateur) sticker. At the final DTM round in Hockenheim, I blessed @v__thierry’s car with it, hiding it on the passenger side of the dashboard. I was reeeally hoping he wouldn’t notice until after his onboard camera was broadcast to thousands of fans, but alas, he has good eyes. It did make him laugh rather than punch me, because he’s a good lad 😅 Here’s to a safe and fast 2024.
