It has been an incredible 5 years with Spectrum News. It is very rare that you get to do work that is fulfilling and in service of humanity. I’ve had the absolute pleasure of getting to know my city intimately and the wonderful people who make it so special. I’ve grown as a journalist and as a human. My skills have sharpened and my storytelling has improved immensely. Most importantly I’ve been forever changed by listening and learning from each of my subjects. Talking to @corey_obrien inspired me to get sober Meeting with @prosperity.market showed me how essential it is to be intentional with where we spend our dollars Singing with @urbanvoicesproject showed me the incredible healing power of music This is a tiny fraction of the hundreds of people I’ve interviewed and who’ve touched my heart. This was a dream job in every sense. And it was always more than just a job for me. I was sharing good news long before anyone wanted to pay me to do it. I pursued this idea relentlessly until the timing was right and it found a platform and offered me a paycheck. Thank you for believing in me, Scott Warren. I moved to LA seeking fame and fortune only to find deep fulfillment in my journalistic roots. I discovered my superpower is curiosity and connection. I love meeting people. I love deep conversations. I love learning and growing. The truth is I have a propensity towards the dark. I work very hard to keep my spirit bright. It’s a daily struggle for me to stay positive. This job gave me hundreds of reasons to keep seeking the light. It’s proven time and again that people are GOOD. The world is GOOD. Los Angeles is GOOD. Thank you Cater, Lindy, Traci and Brittany for your guidance. I’m truly grateful for this opportunity and I’m sad it’s coming to an end. I will be focusing on my writing and turning these stories into a ‘What’s Good’ guide to LA. A love letter to the city and people who made me better. Honoring my inner child by showing up for this precious soul. This was a very healing visit to my hometown. We tried to go up in the Arch but it was sold out. So instead we walked to the Old Cathedral and lit a candle for Flo, her namesake who died 3 years ago today. The synergies are everywhere and I know that miraculous healing I prayed for on the way here has happened. I feel lighter. Eternally grateful for the city that shaped me and this beautiful symbol of hope and possibly. It’s the gateway to the West and I guess I took that literally, moving as far West as one could go. California is my home now but you can never forget your roots. We travel home today with full hearts from the quality time spent with my Mom, Aunt, Uncle, sisters, brother, nieces, nephews girlfriends and their children. You can’t change your past but you can always appreciate the present and create a new future. Until next time ✌🏻🕯️✨🌟

Here’s a picture of me being pretty and palatable because being vulnerable and showing emotions (especially on social media where we’re supposed to be perfect and polished) makes people very uncomfortable 💋 Thanks for all your messages comments yesterday. I’m OK. I KNOW something great is waiting for me – I know because I’m going to create it. I’m simply trying to show y’all that mourning the loss of something you love is NORMAL. It’s a necessary part of life and something we shouldn’t be so quick to rush through or gloss over. I’m okay with being in a season of change. I actually thrive in this space. This is where I listen to the quiet voice inside who will lead me to the next great thing. If I rush this, I’ll just busy myself with something as a distraction or numb myself out and miss the point of what this growth is trying to teach me. I’m not gonna do that. Keep turning towards the light. It’s hard to focus on anything other than the immense amount of suffering in Palestine right now. My heart breaks for the children who are enduring endless trauma. My heart breaks for the hostages whose whereabouts are still unknown. I am as angry, sad and outraged as all of you. But I’m also trying to raise a human who doesn’t have to recover from her childhood. That DOES require me to keep seeking the light. Otherwise the darkness will take me under and I’ll be of no use to anyone much less my child. I know this is important. I am aware of the tragedy and horrors occuring in real time. It’s excruciating. I know I’m not alone in feeling helpless. It does seem like a ceasefire would be a great place to start. I left a note in the wailing wall last year. It was a prayer for peace in the region. It’s a big ask and little ‘ole me certainly can’t control the outcome. So, I’m just here, working on breaking toxic cycles in my own life. Let there be peace on Earth and let it begin with me.

There’s really nothing better than friends who know where you’ve been, see where you’re headed and accept where you’re at. @kristenbrockman @atwjustin started as colleagues and became soul mates. Took my tiny dancer to see the @pasadenacivicballet perform Little Women Ballet at the Heritage House Museum. It was a 3 hour immersive delight. Everyone needs a way to express themselves regardless of their housing situation. At the @lapovertydepartment artists living on Skid Row have a safe place to rest, create and exhibit their work. Conversations that started here have led to policy in hopes of creating lasting change for the city’s most vulnerable residents.
