Hen Mazzig, the incredible Israeli activist, speaker and author and I were invited to speak to college students from around the country who are combatting unimaginable anti-Semitism. These young men and women are on the front lines of their campuses, bravely leading the way for their community, standing strong in their right to have freedom of movement and access to their classes in the face of bigoted threats and mob intimidation.
They wanted to know about what I witnessed and experienced in Israel. I was able to share the stories of the many survivors, and families of hostages I had the privilege of meeting.
These students just want to learn. They just want a normal college experience where intellectual curiosity and meeting people from all over the world and recognizing what is shared, and learning from one another, is all they need to worry about. That is not their reality; so they are stepping up.

This is Noam. She is an artist. We visited her in a rehab center where she has been since Oct 7th. She is an extraordinary woman who lost the love of her life, David, at the Nova Music Festival as he was trying to keep her safe. He lifted her into a huge trash receptacle to hide from the terrorists. There were already 15 others hiding under the garbage. The terrorists shot countless bullets into the trash bin. Noam was 1 of 3 to survive.
She painted the last image she has of David.

NOVA COMMEMORATIVE VILLAGE
One of the hardest experiences was walking into and through the Nova 6:29 exhibit. You walk into a Time Machine and it takes you back to the beautiful peace music festival where over 360 kids were hunted down, raped, slaughtered and mutilated. Imagine Burning Man. Free spirited, music loving kids dancing, partying all through the night and day. And then, surrounded by terrorists with machine guns. Trapped.
An exact replica of the site, as it was found, stands in honor of the souls lost, and a demand to never forget. I spent an hour walking through the pop tents, and blankets the kids relaxed on, the music that had been playing blasted through the space. The dance floor and light show. Videos of The beautiful kids dancing joyously. A wall of every kid massacred that day. And then the tables… full of what the kids left behind. Backpacks, hats, shoes, sunglasses, jackets, sweaters, car keys. I saw a survivor searching for his belongings he left behind when he ran for his life. The portopotties that they hid in, riddled with bulletholes. Piles of burnt cars. It was heart wrenching.
As I was leaving I met former Prime Minister Naftali Bennett who wants to make sure we don’t forget all the heroes of that day.
We are coming up on 100 days that 136 hostages are still held in captivity by these barbaric terrorists. We have heard horrible stories about their treatment from the brave hostages who were released. They have been tortured, raped, starved, denied lifesaving medical care. A photo was released today of 4 girls—ages 18 and 19– with signs of torture and abuse. Where is the global outrage?

Hamas is trying to commit genocide, not Israel. This week, Israel will defend herself against preposterous allegations of genocide in the International Court of Justice. That’s right, the term which was created to describe the largest killing of Jews in the 20th century is now being weaponized against the Jewish state during the largest killing of Jews in the 21st century. Israel is not committing genocide, it was dragged into a war when Hamas attacked on October 7th. Once again, this is not a war between Israel and the Palestinian people. This is a war between Israel and Hamas, a genocidal terrorist organization whose stated goal is the eradication of Jews. A stated goal of genocide. If following the hearing this week, the International Court of Justice calls for Israel to stop defending itself, they will effectively hand out a victory to Hamas. The International Court of Justice should not only refrain from issuing a judgement calling for Israel to stop defending itself, but this shameful case should be dismissed and thrown out in its entirety.
THE BIBAS FAMILY
Kfir and Ariel (ages 9 months and 4 when abducted) may be the most recognizable hostages because of their striking red hair and huge smiles. We watched in horror as their mom Shiri, holding both in her arms, was thrown into a truck by terrorists. We haven’t seen them since.
Kfir turned 1 this week.
We sat down with the kids’ indomitable aunt, Ofri, and several other family members to hear about their desperate efforts to get the family back. A video was released by the terrorists, of their father, Yarden, being told that his wife and kids were dead. The devastation was crushing to watch. Because the terrorists had told another family member that their daughter was dead, and it turned out she was alive, we pray the family is still alive, and it was just a sadistic form of psychological terror that we witnessed.

When I arrived home, this book was waiting. I had forgotten I had ordered it. And because the Lion is such a meaningful symbol for Israel, it felt like a sign.
What a beautiful book. A traditional middle aged woman reassesses her life after meeting a woman unlike any she had met before. I have dog eared all the pages with lines that took my breath away, and there are many. Her description of the family members are so detailed. I really lost myself in this book. Which was a blessing.
