Just one of those days… I’ll start by saying, all is well, I am healthy, I have a home, food to eat, water to drink and people to love. I am grateful for this life. But I’m human, I have hard days, sometimes for no specific reason at all. I’m trying to keep the momentum going as the year just begun and working to keep my stoke alive for what’s ahead. However, I’m not going to lie some moments are tough. No matter how many years I’ve been auditioning I still seem to get my hopes up and visualize booking the job so much so that I often get bummed when I don’t. Also having a brand with giant goals that I know are possible but can feel so far out of reach overwhelms me. To even showing up on here, which I know is my choice, but being consistent has become a priority to me and although there’s so many vids/photos in my phone I get so bogged down trying to put out what aligns with exactly how I’m feeling or is authentic enough to share with you all. All of which are privileges and are not the problem… it’s my relationship to where I’m at and where I see myself that is the problem that stresses me out. I’m sharing all this to say, even when we’re doing our best, even when we are in a good situation, even when the groundwork has already be laid… life can still feel heavy and waves of self doubt creep in. To whoever is reading this and may relate, let me remind you that you are capable, you are needed and important. Take a breath, take a day, take a week, take whatever you need… then keep going. Process over perfection. As I muster up the energy to go to the gym on this chilly LA morning I’m reminding myself that showing up is the win. No need to compare where I was or how I looked because like most things, health and wellness is an infinite game. There’ll never be a day when I reach a goal and I’m done… there will always be more work to do. Whether that is to maintain, to build strength, increase mobility, stretch, shift my eating habits. None of these are constantly the same and depend on what is happening in my life at the time. However I take pride in doing the work to feel my best and move my best. Looking at these photos from a couple weeks ago, this was right after an intense phase of dance & movement. Here I was feeling really good, lean, strong, mobile and inspired. Some people feel the rain others just get wet. On a rainy hike in Ojai with my love we decided to strip down and connect with the elements. It was such a release and a moment I will not forget. It’s true. I am a certified Neat Freak. Ask anyone who really knows me. And to be honest often times I wish I wasn’t. The thing is, life is so chaotic outside of my home that deep down I feel I NEED my house in order. I spend most of my days puttering about tidying up. When I’m stressed I clean. When I’m down I clean. When I’m excited, when I’m leaving town, when I return from a trip, when I am bored, I clean. Hahah Top secret but I’d even prefer to be late than to leave my house a mess. “When we enjoy the process the results become inevitable.” Woke up to this quote sent to me from a friend this morning and I couldn’t agree more. As the year starts getting underway and I’m back in hustle mode I realize that how we feel when we are doing ‘the thing’ has a big impact on the outcome. Here I am doing my first self tape audition of the year and this is exactly the advice I need. Often times when an audition would roll in, although excited I would also carry with me a bit of stress about the prep, set up and all the other things that go along with it. I forget to have fun with the process and enjoy it while I’m doing it. All of our favorite actors, dancers, athletes all truly enjoy their craft, including all of the preparation. That is why they excel, why we watch with awe as they make it look easy. Because it’s all fun to them and although it may be hard work and take much effort, when we love what we do the effort feels effortless. I’m taking this advice with me and keeping it in my pocket. I am definitely guilty of allowing perfectionism and efficiency to take the fun out of the things that should fill me up. And honestly if we enjoy doing it while we are doing it the outcome is irrelevant. Unboxing w/ Baga I’m the type of guy who loves quality staples that last. Most of my essentials are really thought out pieces I’ve collected that have withstood the test of time and my evolving taste. When I first became vegan I wasn’t in the position to discard everything I owned. But I made it a mission to slowly phase things out as I found replacements I felt confident in. However at this point I’m ready to get rid of any thing left and have my entire wardrobe align with my values. I get excited to discover brands that are making the staples I need and have a mission I can stand behind. Especially cuz I’ve been holding onto this last pair for so long waiting til I found the right new boots to replace them with. Planted the seeds, my gal got the hint and I got some new boots!
