Whitney sets the standard for contemporary music vocalists. In 1994, it was no wonder that AT&T thought she’d be the ideal vocalist for their “Your True Voice” commercial campaign, promoting the sound quality of AT&T phone calls. Whitney sang the theme song and also could be heard singing “Your True Voice” at the end of every AT&T commercial.

“Her voice wasn’t warmed up, but she recorded almost 90 percent of the song that day. That’s unusual, says Narada Michael Walden, who credits the fresh performance to the fact that Whitney recorded the track in one session.” – Billboard, January 1988. “So Emotional” hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #5 on the R&B Songs chart on this day in 1988.
