I got my realtors license when I was 25. Put myself thru 2 years of college. The real estate market was HOT in south Florida. But I couldn’t afford to take advantage of the moment and BUY then. I was living stealth & engaged to a hot Italian chiropractor. I broke it off and eventually realized my dream of owning a home didn’t have to include a man who wanted me to keep my being a trans woman secret.

Repost: You waited patiently and I’m finally happy to share that my speech at @oxford_uni is now available to stream on their YouTube channel, or via the top of my profile!
I took part in a debate on whether women SACRIFICE TOO MUCH FOR LOVE and my team won. I loved every moment of being part of this debate, especially my speech which I freestyled in the moment.
As a feminist who is deeply passionate about my mission to free women from the shackles of romantic dependency on men, it is an incredible feeling to be able to take my work to the world’s smartest institutions while having my tiddies out.
If you are going to watch my full 10-minute speech online, I would like to warn you that the comments section is full of really nasty hate from men complaining about my outfit and using the visibility of my chest as an excuse to discredit the articulate, powerful and valid points I am making. This is the world women unfortunately have to live in but in no way, am I deterred from being the multi-dimensional powerhouse that I am.
I made the choice to specifically wear this dress on purpose because women are a marvellous collision of concepts and we don’t need to subscribe to respectability politics in order to be able to connect with people through truth, language and lived experience.

“…as a Black trans woman who has these elders that I’m not biologically related to, but their stories and their voices and their power has resonated years down the road for me, I’ve been able to choose them as my ancestors, right? Because we… the idea of chosen family, we know in queer community exists, but we get to choose who our ancestors are, too. And so I’ve chosen Marsha. I’ve chosen Sylvia. I’ve chosen Crystal LaBeija. Chosen the Lady Chablis Chosen Monica Roberts. And beautifully was able to know her in my life…But that’s it. And so I think knowing that, you know, there has to be something else that bounds us beyond the physical is there. And the last thing I will say is, we talk about gaydar and queerdar and transdar. I think those are the fundamentals for seeing the story beyond maybe the story that someone can tell us. And so there’s a connection when you see someone on the street and you’re like, oh, they’re a little bit different, right? And it’s not in a shady sense. It’s in a like, I know that there’s a universe behind those eyes. Whether I get to know it, I get the privilege of knowing it or not. I’m gonna at least acknowledge that it’s there. Yes. “We have a culture full of people who cannot see themselves clearly. And because they can’t see themselves clearly, they don’t really even see other people’s lives clearly and just scrolling on Instagram with ill-conceived perceptions. How important is it for us to, as you say, see each other?” – @angelicaross
“When I think about this, I think that the answer lies ultimately in community. And so when you ask the importance of seeing each other, and the reason why I named the book, We See Each Other, I wanted to be clear about who I was talking to, which is other black trans folks. Everybody else, you can peek in, you can glean the wisdom from this, but this is about us. And I think when we hyper-focus on our communities and the folks that are around us, I think it makes this work of cultural change easier. But when you begin to focus on your immediate community, and you begin to see the folks in your immediate community, I think that’s how we begin to have some cultural change. So if you, in your local community, are doing what you can to show up for the trans folks, for the black folks, for the queer folks, et cetera, in your local community, the folks who are down the street from you right now, and I’m doing the same here, and they’re doing the same over there, that’s how the shift begins to happen. There’s that GLAAD statistic that folks always say of like, I think the number is 70 some odd percent of people say they’ve never met a trans person. And what I like to say is they believe they’ve never met a trans person, and the reason they believe they’ve never met a trans person is because they have not created a safe enough environment around them for the trans people who already exist in their local communities to tell them their truth. And so how can we think on an individual standpoint about making the space around us safe for the trans folks, for the marginalized folks who are already there?” – @rayzhon

“The fatal failure of this kind of old paradigm is insisting that we need to present as if we’re just like cis straight people. I think the real and more powerful opportunity is we need cisgender straight people to understand that they’re just like us in the sense of we’re all failed by these restrictive notions of who we should be.
There is no perfect portrait anymore of this cis straight man and woman couple with their two and a half kids and this kind of #AmericanDream. That doesn’t really exist. I mean, you see it in the increased divorce rates. You see it in this ire between men, #cisgender men and cisgender women. And a lot of this is about their insecurities around their identities and who they’re supposed to be in this world because they’re trying to fit this script that we shredded up a while ago.
And they can’t stand that many of us are figuring out how to thrive outside of that #script because they were promised and entitled to a full life because of that script and it’s not actually happening.” – @raquel_willis @nowangelicapodcast

Was I paying $10,000/month 💸 for rent? YES.
I was also paying my executive assistant a $70k salary, paying my nephew $20/hr room and board, and paying another assistant $25/hr AND paying a Black trans woman a $40K salary health benefits and room and board who must’ve been living by the “fake it til you make it” motto, because not only was she unqualified but kept making excuses as to why she could not learn the basics like google drive.
This is what I would call a “wasted opportunity”. Imagine me giving you an opportunity and you’re not ready for it? You know how many people ask me if they can work for me? Sorry…Now ain’t no giving chances when it comes to my business I LITERALLY cannot afford it. I founded a whole nonprofit with FREE services to help folks get prepared for opportunities. AT THE END OF THE DAY…I also learned some valuable lessons. As much as I have the heart to help people, I can’t help folks who are unwilling to do the necessary steps to help themselves.
