I went to @ngvmelbourne on Friday to see a specific painting but while I was there in the 18th century wing I stumbled across these incredible creations by Adelaide glass artist @vintagemurtagh … she’s made these ancient Athenian style vessels but when you look closely at the scenes depicted they are of Covid lockdown… Centrelink queues, tired-looking people on their phones wearing masks and queuing up for toilet paper at the checkout … so clever and articulate, also reflecting how ancient the idea of plague is. I then found the artist on here and looked at some of her other stuff – incredible, check it out @vintagemurtagh – and learned that I caught that little two-item exhibit by one day! Jessica it was a delight to stumble across your incredible work. Thanks also to Tiepolo (not on Instagram) whose Cleopatra I was on my way to visit, having recently reread @the_shb_’s GLORIOUS poem about it, which you can swipe to read. Anyway, two artists and a poet 300yrs apart magically conspired to lift my mood when I was feeling tired and anxious so THANK YOU

Backstage at @atqpac for our first night of interfering with one of the world’s great orchestras.
Hearing a bit of anxiety from @australianchamberorchestra newbies and Chatters that this format may involve audience participation. QUELL YOUR FEARS. No one will be required to sing or clap along or play. Probably even @richardtognetti.aco won’t get to play because @leigh_sales – in a megalomaniacal upswing that is at this very second reaching its zenith – is not going to let anyone get a note in. You’ve still got time to make it if you’re in Brissie. Catch this musical Hindenberg before the firies arrive. 🤪
This is the moment on Tuesday night at which Scottish-born classical accordionist James Crabb viciously pranked @leigh_sales by handing her a BOOBYTRAPPED squeezebox on stage at the Opera House in front of the @australianchamberorchestra. Image captured by @mr_stephenblake who will be punished separately as he was forewarned of the gag. Now I know what they say:
“Never a fistfight picking be
With a man who was birthed in Dundee”
But I say to you, squeezebox man. This Adelaide Plains bogan has one more show with you, TONIGHT at Hamer Hall @artscentremelbourne. And at some point in that ninety minutes, I will END you.
Capiche? @chat10looks3
Tickets still available. Bring swabs.

My Wednesday politics column is up at @abcnews_au … it’s about the assumptions that lie beneath all the hysterics and toys-being-chucked-out-of-prams that accompanied the announcement of Australias second female GG out of 28…… there’s a link in my bio or just check the sleek new ABC website
Accordions were MOST DEFINITELY harmed in the making of this film. 😳🪗 Oops, @leigh_sales
@chat10looks3 @annabelcrabb @richardtognetti.aco
Live shots from @abcradionational breakfast as poor @richardtognetti.aco listens to @leigh_sales crap on about music … this is the face of a man who has signed up to do a three state tour with his precious orchestra and @chat10looks3 (starting in Brisbane on Monday! Links in bio and at @australianchamberorchestra) and has just realised he’s not gonna get a look in.
For the Love of Music with @chat10looks3. Our final show is in Melbourne, at the Arts Centre, this Friday.
Thank you @leigh_sales and @annabelcrabb.
“I met Richard in 1994, when I was working at the Adelaide Festival, as driver to Festival director Christopher Hunt. I was a law student at the time and my other part-time job was pumping petrol at the Ampol on Burbridge Road…”
The endlessly insightful @annabelcrabb on working for a festival and meeting @richardtognetti.aco.
Annabel will join the Australian Chamber Orchestra on stage in Brisbane (Mon 8 Apr), Sydney (Tue 9 Apr), and Melbourne (Fri 12 Apr) discussing the fascinating stories behind sublime pieces of music, performed in full by Richard Tognetti and the Orchestra.

Living the dream – at rehearsal with the @australianchamberorchestra ahead of our joint @chat10looks3 For The Love of Music tour next week. Cannot wait!! For tickets google Chat 10 ACO. Sydney is about to sell out, Brisbane and Melbourne not far behind so don’t delay if you’re keen!
To those of you who’ve penned heartfelt missives, sent smoke signals, and even employed carrier pigeons to beseech more outings of “50 Odd Years of Crabb”… I HAVE NEWS.
I’ll be bringing the show to @PerthComedyFestival on 27 April and @SydneyComedyFestival on 9 May.
And with a generosity that rivals that of a daytime TV show giveaway, tickets to the show in Sydney and Perth will be a mere $24 for the next 24 hours. For the price of a decent bottle of wine (or two decidedly indecent ones), you can secure your spot at what promises to be an evening of merriment, memories, and maybe – just maybe – a mite of madness.
Follow the link in my bio for the tickets. I’m told by responsible adults that the discount will be automatically applied at checkout.
And because I know that you’ll be asking: Melbourne and Brisbane, YES I’m bringing the show your way very soon.

Oooo! Get on this quick, champions! @jenniferwongcomedian is so funny that she can make you laugh about the time she did swimming-with-dolphins to help with depression and a dolphin fell on her. It’s comedy with … porpoise. Fill ya boots, you won’t regret it 🐬 @melbcomedyfestival
