The wrecked remains of this are in the fridge as we sit around, listen to Paul Simon records and watch the Aussie batting collapse. Pav with passionfruit curd, white cherries, red currants and elderflower cream (sounds fancy but it’s just cream whipped w a dash of elderflower cordial, absolute piece of piss). I fancy this whole thing would work extremely with those delicate, delicious, bruisable goddesses of the stone fruit world, the white peach. But you’d have to scoff the lot immediately.

Early start at @addiroad in Hampers of Hope week.. ran into some deadset LEGENDS…. Rosanna Barbero, the good witch of Addi Road, who four years ago was instrumental with @craigfosterfootball in helping a very young Marwa Moeen and a small group of young Afghan women escape Kabul when the Taliban stormed their city. Years on, Marwa @bakhtyar_marwa_official is working, studying, MARRIED (!!😍😍) and still coming back to Addi Road to help out. A superb acquisition for Australia I must say. Addi Road is truly a beautiful community… feeding people every week, connecting people every minute of every day. And @kylie_kwong always here, thinking of new ways to help out. Extraordinary women. If you have a few bucks to sling at @addiroad this Xmas … guaranteed every cent will be deployed by volunteers to make someone’s life better. ❤️
Granny Sheila’s Cheesy “Bubble Bread” 1 cup plain flour 1 cup grated sharp cheddar 1 cup grated Parmesan 150g chilled butter, cubed 1 cup cold water Salt, pepper, cayenne Process the butter and flour together until coarse crumbs form. (No processor? Cut or rub the butter in) Add cheese and combine, then add the water gradually and stop when it forms a dough. Too sticky? Add more flour. Should be a good stiff dough. Season w salt, pepper and a pinch of cayenne if you feel like it. Rest in the fridge then on a well floured board roll out the dough (I do it a quarter at a time) You want it SUPER THIN, Granny said you should be able to see the board through the dough. I lack patience so mine are rarely exemplary, see my mum or auntie Liz if you want a finer result. Cut the rolled out dough into strips and bake in a 180C oven for about five mins or until they are golden. Wow. Just finished this book … such a brilliantly observed and nuanced account of teenage boys, their Mums, their Dads, the secrets they all keep from each other, the sudden opening pockets of shame and loyalty and obligation and tender awkwardness … Loved it.
Finally saw Who’s Afraid Of Virginia Woolf at @sydneytheatreco this week and cannot disagree with this review. Kat Stewart is phenomenal. Only four more nights to go. SEE IT. It’s such a vicious complicated play and Stewart – along with Emily Goddard, David Whiteley and Harvey Zielinski – hug every curve. Congratulations to director Sarah Goodes 👏🏻
Three years old and already shifting hampers like a BOSS at @addiroad … honestly if this toddler can get festive goodies moving for people facing a lean Xmas season, maybe there are grownups out there who are in a position to chip in… or share this post would be helpful too. A reminder that there is STILL TIME to thrill the child in your life with the gift of civics. “There’s A Prawn In Parliament House” is a near-perfect gift. You get the savage thrill of giving a kid a present that will annoy them, then the sense of smug satisfaction when they read it and actually enjoy it. I’m inducing my own children to read it by disclosing that there is a storyline in it which involves them and will make them feel embarrassed for me (TRUE) but not saying which page. All good bookstores. And while you’re there, grab yourself a little something. Xx
