Look at this incredible #logies photo of my lovely colleague @costasworld – captured before yesterday’s event by @mr_stephenblake. May I always be lucky enough to work with such unique and wonderful people. ❤️
Last Book Week ever. Even through my mask of tears I can see that the Principal has absolutely left nothing on the field here. Respect. Came for the kids book, stayed for the Kafka. ❤️ Amended: Welcome to this post @maggiehutchingsauthor and @felicita.sala … the AUTHOR and ILLUSTRATOR of the work who have showed up in the comments below … I’m screaming with laughter oh dear social media is drrrreeeaaadddful as we know but every now and then it does give ya a real burst of joy hey ❤️ And it started with a great teacher, like many things. Shout out to all of them xxx
Beautiful birthday celebration this weekend for my lovely friend @fionahughes3, a warm hearted, modest, funny, super competent general delight of a person. Also does not like sweet things so an intriguing birthday cake challenge. This one, concocted in collaboration with @glamgwenblake and modeled on the Swedish concept of Smorgastorte (or sandwich cake, and yes there are many umlauts and whatchamacallits missing from my reference) involves several large miche loaves from @goodwoodbakeshop from which rounds of bread were extracted like those arctic ice plug things, and layered with: Salmon rillettes (hot smoked) Zucchini and dill frittata Beetroot pate Tarama whipped w cream cheese. Toppers: Cucumber ribbons and carved flowers, quail eggs, radish flowers, caper berries, horseradish and dill cream, pink pepper corns, salmon roe, candied baby beets, gone-to-seed herbs and nasturtium flowers from our primary school’s kitchen garden (stolen under cover of Book Week), also smoked salmon. Thank you to our Scandi friends for being such sickoes as to normalise cakes made of fish. Also please enjoy my teenage son’s highly skeptical response on having the concept outlined. Most importantly: Happy birthday to a good, good woman. ❤️ (And as usual thanks to @mr_stephenblake for photography, well the good photos anyway)

Thank you @birdlifeoz for advising that today is #ploverappreciationday! Let us take a moment to respect this truly implausible bird, which likes to nest in the most perilous places imaginable and then get incredibly mad when you have the temerity to walk past them on the, uh, footpath where they are raising their little balls of fluff. Humans are probably the only other species with a comparably senseless disregard for self-preservation, so this goes out to shorebirds and dotterels everywhere, regardless of plumage.
WOW. Just met and had such an intensely fascinating conversation with @najwashihab, the Indonesian broadcaster, journalist, actor and now media entrepreneur who co-founded @narasi.tv and @narasinewsroom six years ago … I quake before her cumulative 45 MILLION social media followers incl 25 million here on Instagram … such a deft thinker about the future of media, the future of democracy, the removal or certain old barriers and protections and the enduring value of accuracy, authenticity, trust and respect for your audience. Truly, Najwa, an honour. Thank you very much to @dfat’s Penny Williams for thinking that we would enjoy each other’s company: Madam, you were CORRECT. Brain buzzing. ❤️
People, it takes a LOT to get this face out of @leigh_sales. Props to the young journo who made it happen… do yourself a favour and catch The Assembly streaming on @abciview from 8.30 tonight. A welcome shot of joy and deep humanity. Plus @samneilltheprop which is always an incentive right?? Congrats to all involved in this terrific show. ❤️
Experimental Fathers Day savoury scones. Got lucky! (With the dad as well as the scones ❤️) Heat oven to 180 2 cups SR flour Extra tsp baking powder 1 cup grated cheese (I used Gruyère and Pecorino, a bitey cheddar would also be perfect 125g very cold butter, grated into the flour and quickly mixed through 1 spring onion chopped finely, use all the green bits As much thyme as you can stand, chopped Chives of your choice have em, chopped 1/2 zucchini finely grated (optional) 1/2 cup of olives, pitted and halved Mix all these together, now for the wet ingredients. 1/2 cup Greek yoghurt 1/2 cup milk Mix the yoghurt and milk together (I also added a couple of tbsp of caramelised onion I had in the fridge) Now add to the dry ingredients and mix through in a very cursory fashion. You want a raggedy mix. Turn on to a floured bench and kind of mosh it into a disc with your floured hands. Cut out rounds or just cut into squares or wedges. On a tray, into oven 20min Happy Father’s Day to all the dads xx
Hey @leigh_sales check out how I can make “Hey Perth peeps, come and hang out with us for @chat10looks3 Live on September 15” last a clear 60 seconds 😂😂😂
Please once again enjoy my mad skillz in Insta-alerting you to a new column up at @abcnews_au, I really only do this to irritate my children thank you and good day 🤓
Okay so I have conducted a personal investigation into the new cast arrivals for @hamiltonaustralia and can confirm the state of the union is STRONG. Of particular importance is the Lafayette / Jefferson role and this guy – Gerard-Luke Malgas – ABSOLUTELY caned it and has more than earned the velvet knickerbockers. His gait alone should win a Helpmann. I read from the programme that this is his professional theatre debut. DAMN!! Of all the things I love about this production here, the fact that @michaelcasselgroup goes and tickles out talent new to us is right up there. Also the fact that they e brought it back, so lots of people who missed this show due to Covid cancellations haven’t thrown away their shot. Declarations: I do not know gerardlukem – I just weirdly importuned him after the show like a weirdo. I would have cropped myself out of this shot for use here but decided in the end that would be even weirder. Also: I was given tickets for opening night (swipe for red carpet encounter with a mysterious and perfectly-attired stranger) but I promise this post is not cash for comment because I went home and immediately broke the mortgage buying more tickets for family and friends. When ya got skin in the game, ya stay in the game, amirite?

Five smart, powerful things that Michelle Obama did in her speech at the DNC. I know this doesn’t look like where this column ends up, but it do. It surely do. It’s up at @abcnews_au right now…. Link to all my columns in bio. Or just scroll or search…
Hey: For the squillions of readers who can’t bear the itchy wait for a new @lianemoriarty_official novel: good news!! It’s landed. It is GIRTHY! More than 500 pages of reliably twisty intrigue with the trademark Moriarty knack of putting words around the experiences of (especially female) humans who think of themselves as ordinary or unremarkable. This writer has become an international phenomenon owing to this very specific superpower and she is ours and I get to chat with her next Friday in Sydney for a specially convened @sydwritersfest out-of-season session. So looking forward to it! Tickets via @sydwritersfest … There are a few tickets left I think but be QUICK, and don’t @me if you miss out xx
Bored this arvo in Sydney? Come to @enmore_theatre and get a big steaming plate of Celebrity Theatresports …. Five teams of very funny people being put in high pressure situations… I’m going along as a judge, not a performer thank god. But it’s going be a grand afternoon.. come! @improaustralia
Hey if you’re in Sydney next weekend and you’ve got time in the late arvo, can I warmly recommend you get along to the @factory_theatre and see @kevinmacisaac ‘s show Funny Laundering? You might know Kevin as a TV and stage actor but dear God he is one of most most screamingly funny Scottish gits I’ve ever met. And I’ve met a few. Crucially – Kevin manages to be at his VERY funniest when talking about tragedy and mental health. Not an easy thing to do, but Jeez when you see it, it’s glorious. Do yourself a favour but be super quick, I don’t think there are many seats left and if ya miss out, don’t @ me 😂😂 Show times are Saturday 7th, 5.30pm Sunday 8th, 4.30pm Tickets through @factory_theatre Also: Notwithstanding the title, there is NOTHING clean about this man’s brain.
