I’ve been writing about this recently- the great lie. Or -the many great lies we are told. Each generation of women there is a different bunch- yet all yielding the same outcome-Keep you exhausted on the road to equality. Which simply- does not exist. Yes, it’s set up this way. Make you doubt and hate yourself to the point of giving up. Make you so soul crushed that YOU couldn’t do it ,whatever it is, that you’ll buy into ANYTHINg you’re being sold to make you “better”. Better woman, better worker, better mother, better wife, better employee, look better, be more digestible, younger, more likeable and by all means less intimidating and etc etc etc etc etc etc etc…….. Just last week I spoke to a high level, female WOC, executive at a HUGE network. She’s in charge of developing shows and putting them on the air. We spoke about just this. She said to me -the fight is REAL- on the inside- to get content that is different from what we’ve seen for years is a DAILY fight. She spoke about how hard she had to work, and still does, to stay where she is and that making you weary is part of the agenda. Was I shocked- no I was not. However, how deep it all goes- that still gets me. This is all areas. Maybe time to look at it straight on. !?
I Applaud @stylistmagazine for putting this out there. Go read article. Maybe you’ll start to realize YOU haven’t failed. You simply weren’t meant to win in the first place.

On a serious note- I had the honor to talk to two amazing artists today about Fresh Kills. I remember when I was waiting endlessly on a financier to give me some money to make my film. One night I turned on, A Bronx Tale, to remind myself what could be done. Not soon after I went my own way and mortgaged my house to make my film. When you see someone go before you and bet on themselves it makes you believe you can do that same. Which is why representation is so vital! I hope I’m that for someone as the crazy talented @chazzpalminteri was for me that night watching his film. Thank you to the other incredible artists and one and only @kathrinenarducci for doing this interview with Chazz in support of this film. Means the absolute world to me. Just trying to keep a safe space to create free of judgment, self doubt, the outside world and allllllllll the negativity/abuse that comes with putting yourself out there – AWAY for a few hours. If you’re feeling like you’re getting swallowed by all of what I just mentioned come join our little community. These spaces have saved me through the most trying of times. To just focus on what a really matters- the art.
This starts in a few days. I keep classes/workshops small and intimate. A few spaces left. Link in bio xx

I send up this peace sign to everyone else though. Those who want you to stay down, stay quiet, stay in your lane. Just because a women we may not be at home anymore tending to the holes in one’s socks, or wanting to just be mothers and maybe want something more- just like you. Doesn’t mean we are wanting your spot. No need to fear. We simply have dreams, desires, goals. Just like your mothers, sisters and friends. No one wants your space- we would just like the option to have OUR space.
Sad this just can’t be- oh America- we could be so much better when we allow ALL to have a voice.

Come join me and likeminded others who believe that art still matters. Bring in whatever you’re working on- a script, a scene, a poem, a character, audition, or something your writing amd want to hear aloud – whatever- just COME and hold space for one another. It’s VERY easy to get drained from this world and this business which makes you stop creating. Creation is needed now more than ever. Art is needed now more than ever. Her surprising performance of a mother and wife is outstanding. I was be totally taken by this movie and so was the audience, full house no one walked out!
