The Greens had a big win this week, forcing Labor to dump their sneaky attempt to give the Resources Minister the power to ignore environmental laws about offshore gas. The remainder of the offshore gas bill, which deals with worker’s safety issues, was passed. Back by popular demand: here’s who voted for what in the Senate last week 👆

Because we don’t take your dirty political donations!
The Budget was the Albanese Government’s chance to finally act on the calls from women’s safety advocates and experts, and fully fund frontline domestic, family and sexual support services. Crowing about a $9 billion surplus and continuing to hand out $50 billion in fossil fuel subsidies while refusing to provide $1 billion to properly fund women’s safety would be laughable if it weren’t so deadly.

I was so pleased to get out to UQ today to support @students4palestine_uq who are continuing their protest encampment. The Greens will always support the right to protest peacefully, and we are in solidarity with the staff and students protesting for justice for Palestine at UQ and uni campuses across the country. Instead of trying to crush legitimate, peaceful protests and ban phrases, universities should be listening to the concerns and divestment demands of their students!

Happy National Volunteer Week! ❤️ I’m so proud to be part of a movement that’s built by grassroots volunteers, not big corporations. It’s easy to feel powerless in the face of a housing, cost-of-living and climate crisis, but together we have the power to fight for a better future. While the major parties have conservative media and corporate donations on their side, we have people who are willing to give their time fighting for something bigger than themselves. And this is exactly what it takes to win. We’re always looking for new, brilliant volunteers. So if you’d like to make a difference in the community and make real change, sign up via the link in the bio. There’s so many ways you can take part – from doorknocking, to serving community meals, there’s something for everyone!

Wondering what the Budget means for women? Join me, @senatorpennyqld and our brand new Greens Senator @stephhodginsmay for an online town hall on Tuesday night. Like you, I was outraged to see so little in the Budget for women’s safety. Women needed bold action and funding for frontline family, domestic and sexual violence services from Labor. Instead, we got rehashed Morrison government policy and re-announced old money. We’ll discuss funding for frontline services, as well as women’s health, the childcare subsidy activity test and income support payments. RSVP via the link in stories 🔗
Today is #IDAHOBIT, the international day marking the fight against LGBTIQA discrimination and the strength of queer solidarity and joy all around the world. After the last few months of desperate conservatives in our media and politics trying to import culture war hate from overseas – (Councils are banning books on LGBTIQA parenting⁉️) – it’s important that we recognise that while we have come a long way, we still have a long way to go. Teachers and students at private schools are still afraid of being fired or expelled merely for coming out and our reliance on religious hospitals and support services make it harder for LGBTIQA people to access health, welfare, housing and food. There is a lot of work to be done and we will get there together 🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️
