Buzzed to join #FashionRevolutionWeek (this week and every week) to raise the alarm about the intersection between fashion, our climate crisis, and social injustices. @antoniobeliveau and I founded @heyjoey_label in 2023 to address the fashion industry’s epic waste issue by incentivizing people to recycle and resell their old clothes and also by repurposing fabric from styles from past collections and using offcuts and deadstock to make kids clothes, hats, bag and scrunchies. This IWD, rather than echoing corporate feminist sentiments about female empowerment and western world women’s achievements — which I’ve certainly been no stranger to in the past, I stand in solidarity with the women and children of Palestine. Women’s liberation is not liberation when we ignore or remain silent about the suffering of women in the shadows. 12,300 children killed. 8,400 women killed. (And we know the numbers are likely to be higher than reported.) Too many mothers unable to feed their children – 80% of them opting to skip meals in order to give to their young (according to UN Women). No access to aid, hospitals, medical clinics.. Women having cesarean sections without anesthesia. Too many families torn apart and left grieving. World leaders have failed them.
