I am so lucky to work with incredibly talented people who love what they do. All of our cinematographers have such keen eyes and the way they “see the light” across any given day that we are filming is always a joy to watch from the other side of the lense because they’re constantly taking in the conditions as they change. The photo you see here was taken by Sam Collins @samshootsthings when we were filming at @botanicsydney the other day. We were filming a piece inside one of the glasshouses with lots of different hanging plants creating a particular atmosphere. There were nepenthes and rhipsalis and a host of other special plants that indoor plant loving folk would be frothing over. Can you pick what plant it is ? Sam had finished what we were doing in there, carted some equipment outside, came back in and said “hey stand there” and just snapped this pic. Its a sharer indeed.Lightning in the jar as they say.
Who’s been to a #participarty before? It’s a party where, instead of stars and spectators, EVERYONE creates the vibe together. @activatetreeplanting does just this – and to top it off, they plant trees while they party! Over 50,000 of them, to be precise! In a time where we need #regenerative #climateaction more than ever, this is THE COOLEST model I’ve seen that combines community, carbon-sequestration and FUN in a sustainable-sized festival that is sold-out in minutes every time. Who was is that said “I don’t wanna join your revolution if I can’t dance”? 💥
There are so many examples of good intent when it comes to greening our cities. You walk past them all the time and want to share the vision and success. But then there are all those other examples that get close but fall down with one little detail or another that doesn’t get considered. In this case some nice container gardens to green streetscapes but because they’re under an awning they need that regular weekly care and attention because they don’t see any natural rain. Throw on top of that the heat of the road and classic windblown urban environments and they dry out very quickly. Gardens like this need to be programmed into the regular care and maintenance of the premises just like the cleaners. Without that consistency any chance for success is limited. What about wicking beds you say. Well they are an option but again a wicking bed has to be attended to and have its wicking well filled up regularly as well. So the bottom line is that container gardens need regular weekly care. Then Watch em thrive.
What an absolute hoot it was to see an idea to have a rooster crowing competition turn from a random creative spark into a seriously fun and engaging highlight of this years @qldgardenexpo 40th Birthday celebration. This idea has got legs and I see it becoming a staple go to because it is fun for all generations There were so many great children crows in each daily heat and one young rooster girl@l made it to the final. Alas Its not for me to share video here of our junior competitors but they crowed loud and proud. Thanks to everyone who joined in and also watched from the stands What a joy. #roostercrowing
Theres something about a lichen and moss covered path, where nature begins to claim back the built environment with a blanket of green. This path at @hopewoodhouse in Bowral has certainly been reclaimed and transformed into a fluorescent green spongy passageway. It was a joy to look at and walk on given the wind and fine weather meant it wasn’t slippery. Build it and we will slowly reclaim it. #lichen #moss #lichenandmoss
I was doing some gardening with my niece and was searching for pot to plant the only snow pea seedling tray that I had picked up at the local nursery i saw this old laundry basket on landfill row and thought hang in I could repurpose it into a Snow Pea Wicking tower. All items I found and repurposed 1. Old laundry basket 2. Some gravel from the side path 3. Some off cuts of shade cloth. 4. One bag potting mix and a seedling punnet were the only items I purchased total about $14 Afternoon activity with my niece : priceless 🧡🧡🧡 And whats more the last thing before bed and first thing next morning she wanted to check if the snow peas had grown . 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽 #repurposed #growyourownveggies #growitlocal #homegrown #snowpeas
My plant of the day today is this Pin cushion hakea Hakea laurina. I just love the flower, these little round balls of colour that catch your eye . They really are like pin cushions. And yet they have a wattle like leaf. Just to keep us on our toes . Thanks for this beauty. It was the first thing I saw when I drew the curtains. #plantoftheday #hakealaurina #pincushionheakea
Have you seen a Sacred Fig or Ficus religiosa before. It is todays tree of the day @botanicsydney
When I was at the St Lawrence wetlands weekend I shared a video with you illustrating the fish later that enables fish to move upstream from the mangroves to the wetlands. At the time the tide was down and there was no water to illustrate how the fish ladder operates. Well here is the fish ladder dry and then with water run ing over it courtesy of ecologist michael who is a regular at the wetalnds weekend . #fishladder #wetlands #mangroves
The Bradley Art award for 2024 continues to see such a vibrant and diverse mix way of creative art being submitted in my image. The last few weeks we have been such a pleasure to wake up and not know what new pictures of me are floating around on my social media. Massive massive shout out to everyone who has contributed an artwork for your creativity, playfulness and the time invested in producing your piece and the story thread you have chosen to highlight. The first picture you see here of a very ripped me was produced by a young student on the Gold Coast who was visiting his grandfather during the school holidays and this is what Jordan thinks is behind my overalls. Thanks for pumping up my tyres Jordan. The second image was prepared by his grandad so they both did their art work together which is something that makes me really happy that they made time to spend time together, and that is what matters.. Today is the last day for entries to be submitted and I can’t wait to see what else comes in. Thanks everyone, I am enjoying every piece of art. #bradleyawards #art

Streetside Plant Find Been out doing some gardening today and I had spotted this plant on the street a few days ago and thought if it is there when i come back it has been discarded. Sure enough there it was today when I came back so I am going to give it a good drink tonight because it’s very dry but it is a perfectly good Dracaena that with a freshen up of soil and a bit of a liquid feed it will be happy as. #kerbsidefind
Todays Plant of the Day is this sweet Rhipsalis pilocarpa child of mine that lives on my bathroom window sill. It is also known as hairy stemmed Rhipsalis. Perched up there it gets a full day of sunshine on this north facing aspect and it loves it up there. I picked it up off a plant specials trolley at a nursery and it was desperately seeking some love so I put it up there and it flowered for the first time this time last year. The only thing was I missed the special moment and only noticed when I came home after being away for awhile and they was a carpet of dried up flowers on the shower floor. So this is the second flowering and I was home to catch it. Yay to this indoor housemate of mine Do you have anything flowering for the first time or anytime for that matter. Always worth a yarn. #rhipsalis
Its always great to see footprints or tracks on the ground and these tracks are kind of self-explanatory when you have a closer look and dissect the patterns that make up each big footprint mark. These footprints were at the St Lawrence wetlands when I went for a little bit of walk in this big sky country wherever you go around the area. That space at the interface between the land and the sea is such a rich landscape. #wetlands #tracks #footsteps
There is something special when you get to look inside a shed, to visit and take in the lay of the tool- land in any community group. Here is a little peek at one of the sheds at the @mullumcommunitygarden . Ordered, racked and available for gardeners whenever required #aplaceforeverythingeverythinginitsplace

Plant Sale alert @botanicsydney Okay bargain hunters of Sydney here is your chance to enjoy a visit to the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney and at the same time come away with a few plants and the knowledge that the small price paid is helping to support the friends of the Botanic Gardens to continue with their volunteer work. Every 18 months to 2 years the vertical garden display in the Calyx is changed and many of the plants are sold off to the public. It’s actually a great opportunity to get a little bit of a behind-the-scenes look at the structure of the vertical gardens and how they work. And if that isn’t enough there’s plenty of great flowering going on in the gardens particularly a seasonal chance for you to check out the flowering cherry trees not far from the Calyx. Its on tomorrow sunday 17th from 10am in the Calyx.
After a bit of repartee, Costa who’s always a good sport, got involved at the chook crowing comp at @qldgardenexpo today. His rendition was unique, embracing the sounds of, shall we say, poultry of a certain age. Well played @costasworld @gardeningaustralia #QGE2024 🎞️@earth_emag 🐔🎶🪴

Tech waste is something we all have our fingerprints on yet there is so much more that can be done than just shredding perfectly functional phones and tablets and laptops to recover the precious metals. @thereconnectproject is a social enterprise that repairs and refurbishes all that tech that is sitting in third drawers and cupboards and garages all around the country and then works with social service organisations to rehome the technology to people in need who would otherwise be digitally disconnected. Come meet the founder Annette and hear a bit about this awesome project Got an old bit of tech you could part with ? #circulareconomy #righttorepair #repairandreuse #digitaldivide #inclusiveemployment #refurbishedtech
Punk caterpillar 🐛 🖤 This is the larva of an Erebidae moth I found munching on Acacia saligna in Esperance, Western Australia Many Lepidoptera have quite specific hosts for their larvae, it’s vital we retain native vegetation . #caterpillar #moth #punk #emo #attitude #larva #lepidoptera #entomology #wildoz #insects #esperance #acacia #wattle #native @entomemeology @the_caterpillar_lab @coffs_butterfly_house @moths_and_butterflies
