hugs to you @kamalaharris… excited and invigorated for what the future holds!
from nyc ➡️ nantucket this was an epic 18 day trip that, after the first weekend was just me and o. 18 days that had two film festivals, big meetings for ora’s burgeoning career, and so many situations that required this girl to play above the rim. and boy oh boy, did she ever. it was such an enriching experience for both of us, reinforcing the idea that if you love someone, meet them where they are… and party. life is short and moments like these are fleeting. i’m so excited to get home to my guy and my other girl and those sweet pups, but man will I hold on to what this trip was. it literally ended with a magic trick and nothing could feel more apt. ✨
today I walked past a tomato plant I kind of forgot I had. it was totally wild and overgrown, but exploding with fruit. I used what I had in the fridge and the pantry and made one of the best sauces I have ever tasted. like seriously ever. and it was just for me; no one else was home. there’s a metaphor in there somewhere. i’ll leave that to you.

🥁 Drumroll please…. We are excited to announce our opening night panel — Brave Storytelling: Processing Through Art in Uncertain Times. • We are continuing our tradition where an Official Selection film sparks the idea for an entire panel. This year, however, we found a theme running throughout so many of our submissions, and we wanted to dig a little deeper by going wider. Yes, we are thrilled to have panelists from not one, not two, but five of our films join us on stage to kick off #SYSFF24 with an intimate and passionate discussion around the role that art plays in processing life. With our industry in a time of transition, we know that many of our filmmaking peers and collaborators are feeling uncertain about the future. However, the one thing we know for sure — every human being is creative. And we process our thoughts, feelings, and the world around us through art and story. • Join us and welcome our panelists, who will open up about their personal journey with their latest films, JOREY WORB (Bite), LIZ SARGENT (Take Me Home), ORA DUPLASS and KATIE ASELTON (Oh, Christmas Tree), NICO CASAVECCHIA (Border Hopper), and CHRIS COLE (Terminally Ill). • Get your tickets today and consider joining us for our opening night party immediately after (requires a separate ticket on eventbrite).
