I don’t mean “not hurting fascists’ feelings”. When we use classist/ableist tropes, it: a) misdiagnoses the problem (and therefore makes it harder to combat and lets the culprits off the hook) b) hurts other working class and/or disabled people, which undermines building solidarity in a mass movement against fascism.
Solidarity with all Muslims, migrants, refugees and people of colour affected by the current violence. We must not only defeat these far right thugs, but the ideology that drives them. We must combat racism, Islamophobia and anti-migrant hatred wherever they rear their head.
Bosses who refuse to pay their workers a fair wage. Landlords who charge extortionate rents. The politicians who cut funding for our schools, local councils and social housing. There’s nothing they love more than to hear people blame immigrants, Muslims and people of colour.
Statement from the Nottingham MPs about the far-right protest being planned in Nottingham on Saturday: We are aware that a protest is being organised in Nottingham this Saturday which is being circulated among far right groups. We have seen similar events in other parts of the country used to stir up hatred and division in communities. Nottingham is united in its horror at the killing of children in Southport. Far right groups using this attack to further their own racist agenda is an insult to the victims and their families. These people do not speak for our diverse city, where people from all different backgrounds live together in harmony. Anyone attempting to disrupt this is not welcome here.
The rain couldn’t dampen spirits at Nottingham’s first ever Trans Pride – a beautiful display of trans joy and solidarity 🏳️⚧️ It was a privilege to address the rally and to make a commitment that I will always fight for trans rights, under any government. 📸: @christregenza

“Swarms” “Invasion” “Hurricane” For years, rightwing politicians and sections of the media have scapegoated migrants and asylum seekers, demonised Muslims, and emboldened racists. Far-right violence doesn’t come out of nowhere. Those who stir up hate must be held accountable.
Many young trans people and their families are hugely concerned about the puberty blockers ban. Criticisms of the Cass review aside, this policy goes far beyond its recommendations. At #PMQs, I asked the government to meet with those affected to understand its impact.
Far-right groups are gathering in Nottingham this Saturday, trying to use the tragic events in Southport to spread their racist message. We will not let them divide our community. If you can, please join the counter-mobilisation: from 1pm at the Brian Clough statue.

A huge thank you to everyone who came to my campaign launch last night 🌹❤️ Change isn’t delivered by politicians alone. It’s won by people who have the courage to organise and fight for it. Together, let’s boot the Tories out and demand a future we can feel hopeful about.

Great to join my friend @oliviablake_mp knocking on doors in Sheffield Hallam today. If you want an MP who will fight tooth and nail for you in Parliament – whether on the climate crisis, SEND, or refugees’ rights – re-elect Olivia on 4th July.
I’m so thankful that we have @switchupnottsboxing in Nottingham East, providing invaluable support to young people, while helping to reduce youth violence and crime. It’s vital that initiatives like this are supported to grow in our city and across the country.
It was great to meet with campaigners from @_teachthefuture. I have long championed curriculum reform, tabling the Climate Education Bill, so that the climate receives the focus it deserves in our education system. We must prepare young people for the future they will inherit.

A pleasure to open Nottingham Refugee Week and meet organisations doing incredible work in our city. We cannot allow right-wing politicians to misdiagnose our society’s ills. The crisis in our public services is the fault of the government, not those seeking safety here.
It was an honour to attend Nottingham Windrush Civic Service, celebrating the people who helped rebuild this country from the rubble of war. The injustice they’ve faced is ongoing. That Windrush elders have died without compensation will forever be a stain on the Home Office.
